Engineering the photocatalytic performance of B-C3N4@Bi2S3 hybrid heterostructures for full-spectrum-driven Cr(VI) reduction and in-situ H2O2 generation: Experimental and DFT studies

Seyed Majid Ghoreishian et al.

Summary: Graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) is a promising metal-free catalyst for environmental remediation, but its practical applications are limited due to insufficient solar-light responsivity. In this study, 2D/3D heterostructures comprised of boron-doped g-CN (B-CN) anchored on sea urchin-like Bi2S3 (BS) particles (B-CN@BS) were successfully synthesized. The B-CN@BS composites exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activities for both Cr(VI) photo-reduction and H2O2 generation under simulated solar-light illumination. These results highlight the heterostructure strategy as a breakthrough for developing new photocatalysts with improved responsivity and activity.

Carbon dots-modulated covalent triazine frameworks with exceptionally rapid hydrogen peroxide production in water

Weijie Ren et al.

Summary: By incorporating carbon dots (CDs) into the interlamination of covalent triazine frameworks (CTFs), the photocatalytic production of H2O2 is significantly enhanced, resulting in a 13.5-fold increase in hourly productivity. The CDs induce rapid nucleation and growth of CTFs on their surface, creating unique nanoscale sandwich structures that exhibit excellent charge separation properties. The experimental results show that CDs play multiple roles in CTFs, including extraction and storage of photoexcited holes, and the creation of intermediate bands for efficient light absorption. Additionally, the CDs-induced surface polarization electric field in the interlamination of CTFs can be modulated by adsorbing alkali metal ions, further facilitating carrier separation and migration.
