Gallium and other valuable components recovery from phosphorus flue dust by a novel process combining vacuum chlorination and water leaching

Wentao Ji et al.

Summary: A new vacuum chlorination and water leaching process for simultaneous P fixation and Ga, Pb, and Zn separation from phosphorus flue dust (PFD) was proposed. The impacts of experimental parameters on the metals volatilization rate were assessed, and under optimal conditions, high volatilization rates were achieved for Ga, Pb, and Zn. Additionally, the impacts of several factors in the water leaching process on the removal of Cl from the residue were studied, resulting in the obtainment of a leaching solution mainly containing Cl-, K+, and Ca2+ and a water leaching residue with high P content.

Tuning excited state electronic structure and charge transport in covalent organic frameworks for enhanced photocatalytic performance

Zhongshan Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a family of isoreticular crystalline hydrazide-based COF photocatalysts was constructed using reticular chemistry, with their optoelectronic properties and local pore characteristics modulated by different linkers. The excited state electronic distribution and transport pathways in the COFs were investigated at a molecular level using experimental methods and theoretical calculations. One of the developed COFs, COF-4, exhibited remarkable excited state electron utilization efficiency and charge transfer properties, achieving a record-high photocatalytic uranium extraction performance of approximately 6.84 mg/g/day in natural seawater among all techniques reported so far. This study provides a new understanding of COF-based photocatalyst operation and guides the design of improved COF photocatalysts for various applications.

China Factor: Exploring the Byproduct and Host Metal Dynamics for Gallium-Aluminum in a Global Green Transition

Huiling Song et al.

Summary: The potential constraints of critical material supply for the global green transition have become a growing concern. Gallium, as an important green minor metal, faces supply risks due to its dependence on aluminum production and the potential impact of the end of primary aluminum production boom in China. Our study examines the gallium-aluminum dynamics and reveals the varying patterns of gallium supply and demand in different regions. The coordination of mitigation strategies from both supply and demand sides can alleviate the concerns on the gallium supply risk in China for a common green future.
