Enhanced Efficiency of In Vitro Rootstock Micro-propagation Using Silica-Based Nanoparticles and Plant Growth Regulators in Myrobalan 29C (Prunus cerasifera L.)

Summary: This study established an efficient in vitro micropropagation protocol for Myrobalan 29C rootstocks. Disinfection of initial explants with AgNPs reduced the needed amount of NaClO. Inclusion of silica-based nanoparticles increased the number of regenerated lateral shoots. Proper culture medium and additive concentrations were crucial for root system growth.

The stimulatory effect and mechanism of low-dose lanthanum on soybean leaf cells

Foliar application of silver nanoparticles mitigated nutritional and biochemical perturbations in chilli pepper fertigated with domestic wastewater

Summary: Crop growth and productivity are threatened by environmental pollution. This study investigated the effects of silver nanoparticles on the growth and nutrient profile of Capsicum annum L. plants grown with different concentrations of wastewater. The results showed that silver nanoparticles improved mineral ions in plant tissues and enhanced growth. Furthermore, the application of silver nanoparticles increased the nutritional value of the fruits. Therefore, silver nanoparticles have the potential to mitigate the harmful impacts of wastewater on plants.

At appropriate concentrations, Tb can enhance the antioxidant system, protect photosynthetic reactions, and regulate hormone levels in duckweed.

Summary: This study reports the in vitro mass propagation of Gerbera jamesonii Bolus ex Hooker f., a highly demanded cut-flower in the floriculture industry, induced by meta-Topolin (mT). The subsequent acclimatization process and cyto-genetic fidelity assessment of the plantlets were also carried out. Different cytokinins and cytokinin-like plant growth regulators were supplemented in the basal Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium, and the growth performance of the shoot tip explants was compared. The developed protocol for large-scale production of true-to-type planting materials of gerbera is of great commercial importance.

Antifungal mechanisms of silver nanoparticles on mycotoxin producing rice false smut fungus

Summary: In this study, it was found that 2 nm AgNPs can inhibit the growth and virulence of U. virens, causing abnormalities in fungal morphology. RNA-sequencing analysis revealed that AgNPs treatment resulted in up-regulation of 1185 genes and down-regulation of 937 genes, which significantly overlapped with genes regulated by the methyltransferase UvKmt6. Furthermore, AgNPs reduced the H3K27me3 modification mediated by UvKmt6, leading to up-regulation of ustilaginoidin biosynthetic genes. AgNPs are therefore effective nanofungicides for controlling rice false smut disease, but should be combined with mycotoxin-reducing fungicides to reduce the risk of toxin pollution.

Cupric ions inducing dynamic hormesis in duckweed systems for swine wastewater treatment: Quantification, modelling and mechanisms

Summary: Hormesis has been a topic of concern in the environmental and toxicological communities. Previous studies have focused on the hormesis induced by stressors in terms of their biotoxicity, but little research has been done on hormesis in the context of biological wastewater treatment processes. In this study, the removal of NH4+-N and Cu2+ by S. polyrrhiza was investigated under long-term exposure to environmentally relevant concentrations of Cu2+ in swine wastewater. The results showed that long-term exposure to Cu2+ enhanced the removal of NH4+-N by S. polyrrhiza, and previous exposure to low doses of Cu2+ significantly improved the removal efficiency in a second exposure.

Study of melting of paraffin dispersed with copper nanoparticles in square cavity subjected to external magnetic field

Summary: The addition of high thermal conductivity nanoparticles in a phase change material is an effective way to improve the thermal performance of the energy storage system. This study investigates the thermal performance of paraffin wax dispersed with copper nanoparticles in a square cavity during the melting process. It is found that the melting rate of the PCM is highest at a Cu nanoparticle concentration of 2% and the energy storage capacity is highest at a Cu nanoparticle concentration of 0.5%. Moreover, an increase in the strength of the external magnetic field leads to a decrease in the melting rate and energy storage capacity.
