Co-Electrospun Silk Fibroin and Gelatin Methacryloyl Sheet Seeded with Mesenchymal Stem Cells for Tendon Regeneration

Yumeng Xue et al.

Summary: Combining gelatin methacryloyl with silk fibroin can create a mechanically strong and bioactive nanofibrous scaffold for tendon regeneration. The optimized scaffold promotes the growth and tenogenic gene expression of mesenchymal stem cells and enhances tendon tissue regeneration.

Modular Bioreactor Design for Directed Tendon/Ligament Tissue Engineering

Axel J. Delakowski et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the use of an acellular 3D extracellular matrix (ECM) scaffold for tendon/ligament tissue engineering. The study also designs and verifies a novel bioreactor system to support long-term culture with customizable mechanical strain regimens. The results show unique gene regulation patterns and highlight the need for a robust bioreactor system that minimizes process variation.

Galectin-1 accelerates high-fat diet-induced obesity by activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) in mice

Jung-Hwan Baek et al.

Summary: Galectin-1 plays a crucial role in adipogenesis and lipid accumulation by increasing PPAR gamma expression and activation, exacerbating obesity in mice fed a high-fat diet. Knockout of Galectin-1 gene can reduce body weight and adipose tissue mass, lower fasting glucose levels, and downregulate lipogenic genes.

Scalable Production of Equine Platelet Lysate for Multipotent Mesenchymal Stromal Cell Culture

A. Hagen et al.

Summary: This study aimed to establish a scalable protocol for equine platelet lysate (ePL) production and to test its effectiveness in equine MSC culture. Platelet concentrates prepared using the buffy coat method showed increased platelet and reduced white blood cell content, and were used successfully as a supplement in MSC culture. Further research into the functionality of equine MSC with ePL as a culture medium should be conducted.

Tenogenic Potential of Equine Fetal Mesenchymal Stem Cells Under The In Vitro Effect of Bone Morphogenetic Protein-12 (BMP-12)

Rene Oliva et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the in vitro tenogenic differentiation potential of equine fetal BM-MSCs under the effect of BMP-12. The results showed that exposure to different concentrations of BMP-12 significantly increased the gene expression levels of tenogenic markers. Equine fetal BM-MSCs exhibited specific expression profiles suggesting features of MSCs and multipotent capacity.
