Rule-constrained reinforcement learning control for autonomous vehicle left turn at unsignalized intersection

Yingfeng Cai et al.

Summary: In this work, a rule-constrained reinforcement learning (RCRL) control method is proposed to address the challenge of controlling an autonomous vehicle's unprotected left turn at an intersection. By training a reinforcement learning controller with rule constraints using the outcomes of the path planning module as a goal condition, the proposed approach can generate locally optimal trajectories that adjust to unpredictable situations, making it safer and more reliable than end-to-end learning.

Adaptive robust control algorithm for enhanced path-tracking performance of automated driving in critical scenarios

Hamid Taghavifar et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an improved control algorithm based on a robust adaptive neural network trained with integral sliding mode, which also considers the contribution of active front steering and direct yaw moment control for critical driving scenarios. Additionally, a super-twisting ESO disturbance observer is developed to estimate disturbances imposed on the car during emergency maneuvers. Experimental results show that the proposed controller successfully stabilizes the handling dynamics and enhances the path-tracking performance compared to previous methods.

Impact of the tyre dynamics on autonomous vehicle path following control with front wheel steering and differential motor torque

Shilei Zhou et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of tyre dynamics on autonomous vehicle dynamic control. Two models, the commonly used 2 degrees of freedom bicycle model and a detailed vehicle model considering tyre dynamics, are built and compared. The results show that while the bicycle model can represent the vehicle dynamics in mild and moderate driving conditions, the detailed model is needed for accurately capturing transient vehicle body vibrations and the influence of tyre nonlinearity on path offset in high-speed path following.

Adaptive Coordinated Path Tracking Control Strategy for Autonomous Vehicles with Direct Yaw Moment Control

Ying Tian et al.

Summary: An adaptive path tracking control strategy is proposed in this study to improve the path tracking accuracy under high-speed and large-curvature conditions by coordinating active front wheel steering and direct yaw moment. The recursive least square method with a forgetting factor is used to identify the rear tire cornering stiffness and update the prediction model. The adaptive strategy based on fuzzy rules is applied to adjust the weight coefficients in the cost function to adaptively adjust the priorities of path tracking accuracy and vehicle stability.

Robust Nonlinear Control Using Barrier Lyapunov Function Under Lateral Offset Error Constraint for Lateral Control of Autonomous Vehicles

Yunhyoung Hwang et al.

Summary: In this study, a robust nonlinear control method using the barrier Lyapunov function (BLF) is proposed for the lateral control of autonomous vehicles. The method includes an extended state observer (ESO) and a nonlinear controller, and it satisfies the constraint for the lateral offset error by compensating for disturbances. A second-order lateral dynamics scheme based on the look-ahead distance of the vehicle is also proposed.

Event-Based Distributed Adaptive Fuzzy Consensus for Nonlinear Fractional-Order Multiagent Systems

Liqi Wang et al.

Summary: This article examines the problem of distributed event-triggered adaptive fuzzy consensus tracking control for a class of nonlinear fractional-order multiagent systems (FOMASs). It introduces two new event triggering mechanisms and a modified event-based consensus protocol, demonstrating the achievement of bounded consensus for higher-order FOMASs with a positive lower bound of transmission interval through the use of a compensating state estimator. Stability analysis based on the fractional-order Lyapunov direct method and simulation examples validate the proposed method's correctness.

Path-tracking and lateral stabilisation for autonomous vehicles by using the steering angle envelope

Qingjia Cui et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a model predictive control-based path-following controller with steering angle envelopes, balancing path-tracking, vehicle stabilisation, and low computational cost. The controller divides the full-length prediction horizon into safe road envelopes for short-term application and stable handling envelopes for longer durations. Through simulations and hardware-in-the-loop experiments, the controller is shown to effectively achieve path-tracking, lateral stabilisation, and real-time computational capabilities under various driving conditions.

Summary: This paper investigates a new approach for path-tracking of an uncertain AGV exposed to unknown external disturbances caused by abrupt changes in road conditions. A robust adaptive non-singular fast terminal sliding mode control is designed to ensure lateral stability, with an adaptive tuning law to estimate unknown disturbances and an optimization algorithm for controller settings. The proposed method is proven effective for maintaining lateral stability even at high speeds, outperforming higher-order and conventional sliding mode controllers.
