Impedance Characteristic Analysis and Stability Improvement Method for DFIG System Within PLL Bandwidth Based on Different Reference Frames

Bin Hu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the stability of doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) systems under different reference frames using an equivalent single-input single-output impedance model. It is found that DFIG systems implemented in the virtual reference frame or alpha beta-frame exhibit greater stability compared to the synchronous reference frame. To further enhance system stability, this paper proposes a method to emulate the virtual reference frame in the synchronous reference frame and validates its effectiveness through experiments.

Power Decoupling Strategy for Voltage Modulated Direct Power Control of Voltage Source Inverters Connected to Weak Grids

Zhen Gong et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a power decoupling strategy for the grid voltage modulated direct power control (GVM-DPC)-based inverter to improve its transient performance. The strategy is based on a dynamic feedforward power compensation (DFPC) algorithm, which demonstrates better decoupling performance than the traditional virtual impedance method (VIM). The power coupling characteristics in GVM-DPC are analyzed, and the coupling magnitudes are derived and compensated into the power control loop for better decoupling performance. The proposed method is validated through simulations and a hardware-in-loop system.

Compensation Strategy of Wideband Voltage Harmonics for Doubly-Fed Induction Generator

Kai Liao et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the compensation of voltage harmonics in doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) under harmonically distorted grid. A modified derivation controller is proposed to compensate both fixed and unfixed frequency harmonics. Critical factors affecting the compensation capability of DFIG are analyzed, and the design thought and procedure of the proposed control strategy are presented. Performance comparisons between the proposed control and traditional control are conducted to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed strategy, and hardware in loop tests are performed to validate its effectiveness.

Fault Coordination Control for Converter-Interfaced Sources Compatible With Distance Protection During Asymmetrical Faults

Zhe Yang et al.

Summary: In this article, a new fault coordination control method is proposed to address the misoperation of traditional distance relays caused by the distinctive fault characteristics of converter-interfaced renewable energy sources (CIRESs). The proposed method reveals the relationship between the apparent reactance and the CIRES positive-sequence current angle by considering sequence boundary conditions. By adjusting current references of the controller, a reasonable current angle is generated to ensure correct fault detection by distance relays. Simulation analysis in PSCAD and real-time digital simulator validates the effectiveness of the recommended scheme.

Impedance-Based Analysis and Stability Improvement of DFIG System Within PLL Bandwidth

Bin Hu et al.

Summary: This article analyzes the negative impact of phase-locked loop (PLL) on the stability of the doubly fed induction generators system and proposes two impedance reshaping methods to mitigate this impact. The first method adds a virtual impedance in the conventional current control, while the second method completely eliminates the coordinate transformation of the rotor current by switching the control target from current to power.

Adaptive Damping Control of Subsynchronous Oscillation in DFIG-Based Wind Farms Connected to Series-Compensated Network

Jan Shair et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an adaptive mitigation scheme to damp the subsynchronous oscillation (SSO) in doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG)-based wind farms connected to series-compensated networks. The proposed scheme includes a subsynchronous frequency estimator (SSFE) and an adaptive subsynchronous damping controller (ASDC). Extensive simulations on a real-world wind power system are conducted to verify the adaptiveness and damping performance of the proposed scheme under different operating scenarios.

Commutation Overlap Characteristic Modeling and Stability Analysis of LCC-HVDC in Sending AC Grid

Heng Nian et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the stability issues of sending AC grid in the context of doubly fed induction generator (DFIG)-based wind power generation and high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) transmission. The focus is on the commutation characteristics of line-commutated converter (LCC)-based HVDC rectifier due to the nonnegligible leakage inductance of transformers. By proposing spectral models and establishing an analytical model considering the commutation overlap angle, the impact of commutation overlap on the impedance model of LCC-HVDC is studied. The results show that commutation overlap cannot be ignored and the simplified modeling methods in different frequency bands are discussed.

A Complete Impedance Model of a PMSG-Based Wind Energy Conversion System and Its Effect On the Stability Analysis of MMC-HVDC Connected Offshore Wind Farms

Tao Xue et al.

Summary: Impedance modeling of a PMSG-based WECS usually simplifies the machine-side dynamics as a constant power source, assuming decoupling with the grid-side dynamics due to a large dc-bus capacitor. However, in practice, this simplification may not hold true as minimizing the capacitor size affects the decoupling.

Admittance-Based Stability Comparative Analysis of Grid-Connected Inverters With Direct Power Control and Closed-Loop Current Control

Zhiwei Xie et al.

Summary: This study compares the admittance characteristics of grid-connected inverters with DPC and CCC, and reveals that DPC is more sensitive to grid impedance while CCC has better adaptability to weak grids and high output powers. Additionally, the PLL bandwidth has minimal impact on the stability of grid-connected inverters with DPC, but significant impact on those with CCC connected to weak grids.
