Experimental Investigation of the Breaking Arc Behavior and Interruption Mechanisms for AC Contactors

Summary: This article experimentally simulated the AC arc of a commercial contactor, investigating the effects of contact gap and point-on-wave at break on arc behavior. The reignition phenomenon of the arc at small contact gaps was observed and explained, and two interruption mechanisms of the AC arc were revealed based on variations in arc termination voltage.
