Focused electron beam transport through a long narrow metal tube at elevated pressures in the forevacuum range

Ilya Bakeev et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the features of focused electron beam transport in free space at elevated pressures. The effects of beam accelerating voltage, operating gas pressure, and magnetic focusing on beam trajectory are explored, particularly on beam convergence and divergence angles. The results show that the divergence angle increases with pressure, and for pressures greater than 5 Pa, the divergence angle is greater than the convergence angle. The findings are applied to electron beam transport experiments through a long narrow metal tube.

Specific features of focused electron beam transport through a narrow metal tube at negative potential in the forevacuum pressure range

I. Yu Bakeev et al.

Summary: We investigated the transport of a focused electron beam through a long and narrow metal tube held at negative potential. The effect of electron beam parameters and tube potential on transport was explored. It was found that this effect is related to the initiation of a non-self-sustained glow discharge within the tube and the beam magnetic focusing parameters. Increasing the fraction of electrons transported through the tube promotes uniformity in the distributions of the non-self-sustained discharge current and discharge plasma density along the tube length.

Summary: This study explores the formation process of a focused electron beam at higher pressures, and finds that a decrease in convergence angle can be achieved through appropriate design, reduced gas pressure, and increased accelerating voltage.

Plasma generation in a long, narrow, metal tube by electron beam injection

V. A. Burdovitsin et al.

Summary: This study presents experimental results on plasma generation in a long, narrow metal tube using electron beam injection and the application of a negative potential. The threshold electron beam current for plasma initiation is found to increase with decreasing pressure, decreasing tube diameter, and increasingly negative tube potential.

Discharge in a long metal tube with an electron beam generated by a forevacuum plasma-cathode electron source

V. A. Burdovitsin et al.

Summary: We investigated the current distribution in a non-self-sustained hollow-cathode glow discharge in a long metal tube. The distribution depends on the tube geometry and electron beam current, and can exhibit a non-monotonic behavior. Increasing the discharge current can improve the uniformity of the current distribution.
