An E-Band Transformer-Based x8 Frequency Multiplier With Enhanced Harmonic Rejection

Van-Son Trinh et al.

Summary: In this study, we propose an efficient method to enhance the harmonic rejection ratio (HRR) of a millimeter-wave frequency multiplier (FM) by using optimal capacitive loads with minimal area overhead. We designed an eight-times FM (x8 FM) using the 65-nm CMOS technology, which achieves an HRR of 35-50 dBc over a wideband of 20.8 GHz to 91.2 GHz. The proposed technique rebalances the TF-based baluns in each PPD by using two separate capacitive loads connected to the output terminals of the TF. The fabricated x8 FM demonstrates significant improvement in the HRR and increased bandwidth in simulation.
