Multi-state MRAM cells for hardware neuromorphic computing

Piotr Rzeszut et al.

Summary: In this study, a complete hardware implementation design of a neural computing device that incorporates serially connected MTJs forming a multi-state memory cell is presented. The designed network shows a comparable detection ratio to the software algorithm in recognizing hand-written digits, using weights stored in a multi-cell consisting of four or more MTJs. Moreover, the presented solution has better energy efficiency in terms of energy consumed per single image processing, compared to a similar design.

Effect of surface morphology on magnetization dynamics of cobalt ultrathin films: An in-situ investigation

Anup Kumar Bera et al.

Summary: The growth of Co film on SiO2/Si substrates with different surface roughness was analyzed using MOKE and transport measurements. The films were found to grow via Volmer-Weber process, leading to the formation of continuous ferromagnetic films with thicknesses around 1.5 nm. The presence of weak uniaxial magnetic anisotropy in the films was confirmed, with differences attributed to the effects of domain wall pinning and internal stresses, particularly on ripple patterned substrates.
