Urban network-wide traffic volume estimation under sparse deployment of detectors

Jiping Xing et al.

Summary: Sensing network-wide traffic information is crucial for urban planning and traffic management, but sparse detector deployment poses challenges. To address this, a transfer learning-based least square support vector regression (TL-LSSVR) model is proposed, which utilizes active detectors (taxi GPS data) and fixed passive detectors (license plate recognition data) to estimate network-wide volume. Numerical experiments on a real-world road network in Nanjing, China demonstrate the high performance and superiority of the proposed approach compared to other baselines.

Low-CP-Rank Tensor Completion via Practical Regularization

Jiahua Jiang et al.

Summary: Dimension reduction is an analytical method for reconstructing high-order tensors. The CANDECOMP/PARAFAC (CP) tensor completion is a widely used approach to find a low-rank approximation for a given tensor. A new algorithm for tensor completion is proposed by embedding the flexible hybrid method into the CP tensor framework, which improves reconstruction accuracy and algorithmic robustness.

Multitask Neural Tensor Factorization for Road Traffic Speed-Volume Correlation Pattern Learning and Joint Imputation

Yiting Zhu et al.

Summary: Missing data is a common and critical problem in traffic data collection and processing. Tensor-based methods have been effective in imputing missing values in spatio-temporal traffic data. However, most previous studies did not consider the joint imputation of multiple correlated data such as traffic speed and volume. This paper proposes a novel method called Multi-Task Neural Tensor Factorization (MTNTF) to address the joint imputation of traffic speed and volume, and experiments demonstrate its superiority over state-of-the-art methods.

Jiping Xing et al.

Summary: In this study, a transfer component analysis (TCA)-based network-wide volume estimation model is proposed to be used when the plan of detector deployment is uncertain. The method improves feature extraction by using taxi GPS data and cellular signaling data with the same spatio-temporal coverage. Numerical experiments show that the proposed method outperforms other baselines in terms of robustness and stability in two selected subnetworks from urban centers and suburbs.

Truncated tensor Schatten p-norm based approach for spatiotemporal traffic data imputation with complicated missing patterns

Tong Nie et al.

Summary: This paper explores an innovative method for imputing missing spatiotemporal traffic data using tensors. The proposed method utilizes a nonconvex truncated Schatten p-norm (TSpN) to approximate tensor rank and combines the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) with generalized soft-thresholding (GST) to derive global optimal solutions. Experimental results show that the proposed method performs well under various missing cases, even with high rates of data loss, outperforming other state-of-the-art tensor-based imputation models in almost all scenarios.

Summary: In this study, a multiattention tensor completion network (MATCN) is designed to model multidimensional representation for handling missing data. MATCN generates initial schemes through sparse sampling of historical fragments and a gated diffusion convolution layer to address exposure bias in previous models. The architecture utilizes a spatial signal propagation module and a temporal self-attention module to aggregate representations and extract dynamic dependencies at the spatiotemporal level. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of MATCN over other models in handling complex missing data scenarios.
