Additional Positive Electric Residues in the Crucial Spike Glycoprotein S Regions of the New SARS-CoV-2 Variants

Summary: This study analyzed the changes in formal charge of 34 SARS-CoV-2 lineages from September 2020 to June 2021 and found that positive mutations, especially in the spike protein, were associated with an increase in COVID-19 case fatality rate. The data mining confirmed the importance of additional positive charge in enabling virus impact on immunity.

Decay of infectious SARS-CoV-2 and surrogates in aquatic environments

Summary: The study found that the persistence of infectious SARS-CoV-2 in water was temperature dependent, with the virus remaining infectious for longer periods in colder temperatures. In contrast, viral RNA was relatively stable. The use of surrogate markers such as bacteriophages MS2 and PMMoV RNA showed significant differences in decay rates compared to SARS-CoV-2 RNA, limiting their effectiveness in assessing the persistence of the virus in the environment.
