Experimentally Testing a Halbach Rotor Coaxial Magnetic Gear With 279 Nm/L Torque Density

Ho Yin Wong et al.

Summary: This paper presents the design, analysis, and experimental testing results of a 5.67:1 Halbach rotor magnetic gear with a ferromagnetic back support. The testing results of two different support designs, rectangular modulation supports and bridgeless circular modulation support rod, are evaluated. The presented design demonstrates the capability to operate with a peak torque of 189 Nm and an active region torque density of 279.3 Nm/L.

Pole and Segment Combination in Concentric Magnetic Gears: Vibrations and Acoustic Signature

Simon Staal Nielsen et al.

Summary: This paper examines the impact of cogging torque and unbalanced radial magnetic forces on vibrations and acoustic noise properties in concentric magnetic gears through three physical demonstrators with unique properties. It shows how these factors dominate the acoustic and vibrational properties and affect the sensitivity of the magnetic gears to system eigenfrequencies.

Optimization of Coaxial Magnetic Gear Design and Magnet Material Grade at Different Temperatures and Gear Ratios

Matthew C. Gardner et al.

Summary: Magnetic gears have the potential to optimize designs for higher specific torque by using different magnet materials on different rotors, especially when designing with a large gear ratio. The increase in temperature results in an exponential decay in achievable specific torque, but does not significantly impact optimal geometric parameters, primarily affecting optimal materials.
