Slip-aware driver assistance path tracking and stability control

Ehsan Hashemi et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel integrated control framework for simultaneous vehicle lateral stabilization and path tracking, considering combined-slip effect, wheel dynamics, and tire force nonlinearities. It utilizes active front steering and brakes as actuators for a slip-aware receding horizon control system, offering safe and accurate performance in path tracking and vehicle stabilization. Real-time experiments and simulations demonstrate that the proposed control framework outperforms existing algorithms in handling reduced tire capacities during harsh maneuvers.

Evaluating the Effectiveness of Integrated Connected Automated Vehicle Applications Applied to Freeway Managed Lanes

Yi Guo et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study is to define the operational concept of connected automated vehicle (CAV) operation on freeway managed lanes. Through microscopic simulation, the study examines the effectiveness of CAV applications, including cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC), cooperative merge, and speed harmonization, under different penetration rates. Simulation results show that these applications can improve system throughput and reduce delay, with speed harmonization having the greatest effects on delay reduction at medium-to-high penetration rates.

Realization and Evaluation of an Instructor-Like Assistance System for Collision Avoidance

Keji Chen et al.

Summary: This paper introduces an instructor-like assistance system for collision avoidance that only activates when the driver is facing a collision risk due to improper operation. Through a combination of safe driving constraints and predictive vehicle states, the system improves driving behavior, as evidenced by increased distance and reduced speed when passing an obstacle. Experimental data from an actual vehicle also confirms the efficacy of the control system and the impact of different safe driving constraints.
