In situ learning using intrinsic memristor variability via Markov chain Monte Carlo sampling

Thomas Dalgaty et al.

Summary: A machine learning scheme utilizing memristor variability was developed to implement Markov chain Monte Carlo sampling in a fabricated array of devices. This approach demonstrated robustness in tasks such as malignant tissue recognition, heart arrhythmia detection, and reinforcement learning, with significantly lower total energy consumption compared to traditional CMOS-based methods.

AIDX: Adaptive Inference Scheme to Mitigate State-Drift in Memristive VMM Accelerators

Tony Liu et al.

Summary: An adaptive inference method for crossbar (AIDX) is proposed, which minimizes the long-term effects of memristance drift on artificial neural network accuracy by optimizing the duration and amplitude of input voltage pulses. The method has been validated through modeling sub-threshold behavior of memristor and testing on various network structures and applications, resulting in significant improvements in performance.

RxNN: A Framework for Evaluating Deep Neural Networks on Resistive Crossbars

Shubham Jain et al.

Summary: Resistive crossbars are a promising component for DNN hardware, but suffer from various nonidealities that can lead to accuracy degradation. It is crucial to study the impact of these nonidealities on large-scale DNNs, although existing models are too slow for application-level evaluations. RxNN is introduced as a fast and accurate simulation framework to evaluate large-scale DNNs on resistive crossbar systems, showing significant accuracy degradations (9.6%-32%) and enabling model-in-the-loop retraining to mitigate the degradation.
