Summary: Hybrid magnets, combining High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) materials and Low Temperature Superconductors (LTS), are being considered as an economically viable option for 20 T dipole magnets in next generation particle accelerators. Various design options, including the Cos-theta design (CT), Canted Cos-theta design (CCT), Stress Management Cos-theta design (SMCT), Block-type design (BL), and Common-Coil design (CC), have been investigated to generate a 20 T field with a 50 mm clear aperture. The analysis focuses on factors such as superconducting material quantity, field quality, conductor peak stress, and quench protection.

Summary: The most effective way to achieve very high collision energies in a circular particle accelerator is to maximize the field strength of the main bending dipoles. In this paper, the possibility of using High Temperature Superconductors (HTS) to push the magnetic field beyond the limits of Nb3Sn superconductor is discussed. Preliminary conceptual designs of various 20 T hybrid magnet concepts, combining HTS and Nb3Sn materials, are presented and compared.

Summary: This paper presents a 120-mm aperture 2-layer dipole coil with stress management (SM) using a cos-theta coil geometry. Additive manufacturing technology was used to print a plastic model of the coil support structure for practice coil winding, while the actual support structure was printed using 316 stainless steel. The paper reports the results of the SM structure size control and key coil fabrication steps, as well as presents and discusses the design of the coil SM structure and its finite element analysis (FEA) in dipole mirror test configurations.
