Low-profile high-gain broadband circularly polarized slot antenna with RCS reduction using polarization conversion metasurface

Shasha Deng et al.

Summary: A novel design of circularly polarized broadband slot antenna with high gain, low profile, and low radar cross-section (RCS) is proposed by employing polarization conversion metasurface (MS). The design achieves a smaller MS slot antenna with an impedance bandwidth of 42.9% and a 3-dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of 22.8%. Furthermore, a larger MS slot antenna with improved performance is realized by arranging the MS and its orthogonal units in a chessboard-type pattern and using a sequentially rotated feeding network.

Broadband Polarization Conversion Metasurface for Antenna RCS Reduction

Jie Liu et al.

Summary: A new broadband polarization conversion metasurface (PCM) is proposed to reduce radar cross section. The PCM achieves polarization rotation and conversion functions through an equivalent circuit, effectively reducing the RCS of the antenna. Integrating the PCM into the antenna significantly reduces the RCS while maintaining the antenna's radiation performance.

A Broadband Metasurface Antenna Array With Ultrawideband RCS Reduction

Lina Qiu et al.

Summary: In this study, a metasurface-based antenna array that achieves wideband radiation and broadband radar cross section (RCS) reduction is constructed. The broadband radiation performance is achieved by utilizing the metasurface itself, without introducing additional radiators. The radiation mechanism of the radiator elements and the proposed antenna array is analyzed using characteristic mode theory. Both simulations and measurements are conducted to verify the performance of the antenna array. The results show a wide impedance bandwidth, gain bandwidth, and significant monostatic RCS reduction within a specific frequency range.

Ultra-broadband and high-efficiency polarization conversion metamaterial based on a metal combination water structure

Zhaoyang Shen et al.

Summary: A linear-to-linear polarization conversion metamaterial with a water-metal structure is proposed, which achieves ultra-broadband and high-efficiency polarization conversion from 7.46 GHz to 14.84 GHz with a polarization conversion ratio over 90%. The metamaterial exhibits sensitivity to the incidence angle but not to temperature. The physical mechanism of polarization conversion is analyzed based on the distributions of the surface current and the magnetic field. An experimental sample is fabricated, assembled, and measured to realize reflective polarization conversion, providing a significant stepping stone for water-based metamaterial design and polarization control.

Changfeng Fu et al.

Summary: A linear polarization conversion coding metasurface is proposed for radar cross section reduction of an object, which has both wideband RCS reduction and high efficiency of mirror reflection. Experimental and simulation results show that the designed metasurface can achieve greater than 10 dB RCS reduction in specific frequency bands and is less sensitive to polarization under normal incidence, indicating its significant potential in antenna designs or stealth technology fields.

A Broadband Low-RCS Metasurface for CP Patch Antennas

Qi Zheng et al.

Summary: A novel metasurface-based method is proposed for broadband radar cross section reduction of circularly polarized patch antennas, achieving a much broader band than the antenna's operating band. By combining two different destructive interference principles, the broadband RCS reduction is achieved through phase cancellation generated by the metasurfaces and grounded substrate, as well as the polarization conversion property of the metasurfaces.
