A novel grid dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) planar array is proposed in this study, which greatly simplifies the complexity of the feeding network and achieves high-performance antenna characteristics.
A novel grid dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) planar array is proposed in this communication. In this design, the concept of traditional microstrip grid antenna array is applied to DRA for the first time, which greatly simplifies the complexity of the feeding network. It is noteworthy that the grid DRA array was constructed in a DR structure with a simple power divider circuit. First, a nine-element grid linearly polarized (LP) DRA planar array with simple feeding network is proposed to realize a fractional bandwidth (FBW) of 10% and a peak gain of 13.7 dBi. Next, a grid circularly polarized (CP) DRA array with four proposed LP DRA elements is designed.
