Experimental investigation on the distribution characteristics of droplets in annular flow with wide liquid viscosity range

Hui Liu et al.

Summary: The existence of droplets in annular flow has a significant impact on mass transfer and heat transfer between phases. Liquid viscosity can dominate droplet characteristics, yet its effects have not been sufficiently studied. This study experimentally investigates the distribution characteristics of droplets in a vertical annular flow with liquid viscosities ranging from 1 to 30 mPa.s. The results show that the diameter and momentum of droplets undergo different changes with increasing liquid viscosity. Furthermore, the radial evolution of droplets and the slip ratio of droplet velocity under different liquid viscosities are determined. The study also reveals that droplet deformation increases sharply with higher liquid viscosity, affecting the accuracy of mass and heat transfer calculations. The findings can assist in modeling multiphase flow under high-viscosity conditions.

Design of ultrasonic flowmeter for wet gas measurement

Dandan Zheng et al.

Summary: This article discusses the issues and solutions related to the use of ultrasonic flowmeters in wet gas measurement. By designing a dual-channel UFM and establishing a measurement system, the accurate time of flight (TOF) of ultrasound in wet gas is obtained using a dynamic threshold method. Additionally, a wet gas velocity measurement model for the dual-channel UFM is established based on a neural network.

Experimental Investigation of Mechanisms of Droplet Entrainment in Annular Gas-Liquid Flows: A Review

Andrey V. Cherdantsev

Summary: The entrainment of liquid from the film surface by high-velocity gas stream has a significant impact on mass, momentum, and heat transfer in annular flow. This paper analyzes the achievements and perspectives of various experimental approaches to the qualitative and quantitative characterization of droplet entrainment. Optical visualization in multiple planes simultaneously, along with measurements of film thickness, is crucial for understanding the transitional liquid structures and detaching droplets.

Droplet size of vertically upward annular flow in a narrow rectangular channel

Fuqiang Zhu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the droplet size of annular flow in narrow rectangular channels, revealing that the Sauter mean diameter of droplets decreases with increasing gas velocity and increases with liquid velocity. The droplet size distribution shows two types: single-peaked and double-peaked. Additionally, a correlation is proposed to predict the droplets' Sauter mean diameter.

Feasibility Study of Using X-ray Tube and GMDH for Measuring Volume Fractions of Annular and Stratified Regimes in Three-Phase Flows

Gholam Hossein Roshani et al.

Summary: This paper evaluates the feasibility of using an X-ray tube to measure volume fractions in three-phase flows, and proposes a detection system based on an X-ray tube and NaI detector as a potential alternative to radioisotope-based systems. The results indicate that this simple system could accurately measure gas, oil, and water volume fractions in varying flow regimes.

Application of single-probe fiber optic reflectometry on phase discrimination and velocity and size determination in an oil-gas-water three-phase flow

Jitae Do et al.

Summary: This paper presents an experimental study on the applicability and accuracy of phase discrimination, velocity, and size measurements for bubbles and droplets using a single-probe fiber optic reflectometer technique in oil-gas-water three-phase flow. The technique successfully identified dispersed and continuous phases, measured velocity and size, and achieved improved accuracy through signal processing methods. The study verified the effectiveness of the technique in identifying and quantifying bubbles and droplets in three-phase flow, with high success rates in phase discrimination, velocity and size measurements, and determining applicability limits.
