All-Carbon Solution-Gated Transistor with Low Operating Voltages for Highly Selective and Stable Dopamine Sensing

Xin Xi et al.

Summary: The use of carbon materials in all-carbon electronic devices allows for the preparation of components with different properties and functions. In this study, an all-carbon solution-gated transistor (AC-SGT) based dopamine sensor was fabricated using Nafion coated nitrogen and oxygen co-doped carbon yarn as the gate electrode and graphene as the channel. The AC-SGT exhibited excellent dopamine sensing performances in terms of sensitivity, selectivity, limit of detection, linear range, long-term stability, and preconditioning time. Additionally, a smartphone controlled portable sensing system integrated with the AC-SGT showed great in vitro sensing capability of dopamine in urine, demonstrating the potential of all-carbon transistors in smart wearable biosensors.

Redox-labelled electrochemical aptasensors with nanosupported cancer cells

S. Li et al.

Summary: In this study, 20-nm-thick nanopillars were used to overcome the downward force issue caused by cells on bioelectrochemical sensors. The experiments and simulations showed that suspending cells a few nanometers above the electrode surface allowed redox-labelled DNA aptamer probes to freely move and interact with target membrane proteins. This novel nanosupported electrochemical DNA cell sensor scheme provides new opportunities for the design of all-electrical sensors using redox-labelled probes.

Failure analysis and design principles of silicon-based lithium-ion batteries using micron-sized porous silicon/carbon composite

Qiuyan Li et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the design and failure analysis of a silicon (Si) anode for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). The volumetric energy density of the Si anode depends heavily on factors such as Si/C loading, anode calendering density, first-cycle coulombic efficiency, and anode capacity density. Stable Si/C electrode structure is crucial for long-term cycling, and the degree of prelithiation needs to be balanced with cycle life.
