Emerging Wearable Interfaces and Algorithms for Hand Gesture Recognition: A Survey

Shuo Jiang et al.

Summary: Hand gesture recognition technology has been widely applied in rehabilitation, prosthesis control, human-computer interaction, and other fields. Various sensing modalities, including electrical, mechanical, acoustical/vibratory, and optical, have been used for input, and classification and regression algorithms have been employed for recognition. Both conventional machine learning algorithms and deep learning algorithms have been utilized for gesture recognition applications.

Monitoring Flexions and Torsions of the Trunk via Gyroscope-Calibrated Capacitive Elastomeric Wearable Sensors

Gabriele Frediani et al.

Summary: The study presents a wearable wireless system utilizing piezo-capacitive sensors to monitor flexions and torsions of the trunk, with the ability to undergo simple and fast calibration. Compared to stereophotogrammetry, the piezo-capacitive sensors demonstrate lower errors in detecting flexions and torsions.

Wearable Detection of Trunk Flexions: Capacitive Elastomeric Sensors Compared to Inertial Sensors

Gabriele Frediani et al.

Summary: Research has shown that stretchable piezo-capacitive elastomeric sensors based on dielectric elastomers have advantages in monitoring human kinematics and have higher accuracy in detecting trunk flexions compared to gyroscopes. They perform better than accelerometers in quasi-static inclinometer functions but also show higher performance in highly dynamic accelerations.
