A Prospective Cohort Study of Seasonal Variation in Spontaneous Abortion

Amelia K. Wesselink et al.

Summary: The study found that environmental or lifestyle factors more prevalent in late summer may be associated with an increased risk of early spontaneous abortion. This conclusion was based on the analysis of data from the Pregnancy Study Online, a preconception cohort study of pregnancy planners from the United States and Canada, who reported the month and gestational week of their pregnancies.

The association between season, day length, and temperature on clinical outcomes after cryopreserved embryo transfer

Katharine F. B. Correia et al.

Summary: The study found that higher clinical pregnancy and live birth rates were associated with oocyte retrieval in summer and higher temperatures during retrieval in frozen embryo transfer cycles. However, there were no consistent associations between clinical outcomes and day length at oocyte retrieval or between season, day length, or temperature at transfer of thawed embryos.

Poor ovarian response is associated with air pollutants: A multicentre study in China

Shanshan Wu et al.

Summary: This large-scale study found that exposure to ambient air pollutants was associated with an increased risk of poor ovarian response, especially for women under 30 years old. The findings underscore the importance of reducing ambient air pollution exposure in women of reproductive age to protect human fertility.

Summer is not associated with higher live birth rates in fresh IVF/ICSI cycles: a population-based nationwide registry study

Eva Carlsson Humla et al.

Summary: There was no support for a higher live birth rate after fresh IVF/ICSI when treatment was performed during the summer season. The study found significantly higher live birth rates in spring and autumn compared to summer, suggesting that season should not be taken into consideration when planning and performing fresh IVF/ICSI treatments.

Pollutants and sperm quality: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Damiano Pizzol et al.

Summary: Male fertility and semen quality have declined in recent decades, with environmental and occupational pollution potentially impacting sperm quality. It is important to further understand the effects of pollutants on human, animal, and planetary health, as sperm quality is considered a proxy for general health and pollutants have a significant impact on climate change.

Post-conception heat exposure increases clinically unobserved pregnancy losses

Tamas Hajdu et al.

Summary: Evidence suggests that exposure to hot temperatures during early pregnancy can increase the risk of clinically unobserved pregnancy losses. Conversely, exposure to colder temperatures seems to decrease the pregnancy loss rate.
