Mortality rate and liver transplant in patients with mushroom poisoning: A systematic review & meta-analysis

Maryam Janatolmakan et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the mortality rate and liver transplantation in patients suffering from mushroom poisoning. The results showed that the mortality rate of mushroom poisoning ranged from 0% to 40%, and the meta-analysis indicated a mortality rate of 2.87%. Only 2 out of 16 patients died after liver transplantation, while the remaining 14 survived.

4-tert-butylphenol triggers common carp hepatocytes ferroptosis via oxidative stress, iron overload, SLC7A11/GSH/GPX4 axis, and ATF4/ HSPA5/GPX4 axis

Jiawen Cui et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the toxicity of 4-tert-butylphenol (4-tBP) to fish liver using in vivo and in vitro models. We found that 4-tBP caused liver damage, potentially through the process of ferroptosis. Furthermore, we observed oxidative stress, iron overload, and abnormal expression of ferroptosis-related factors following 4-tBP exposure. The ferroptosis inhibitor Fer-1 alleviated these changes, indicating its potential as a protective agent against 4-tBP toxicity.

Organophosphorus flame retardant TDCPP induces neurotoxicity via mitophagy-related ferroptosis in vivo and in vitro

Bo Qian et al.

Summary: TDCPP-induced ferroptosis may be associated with its neurotoxicity, potentially through the PINK1/PARKIN-mediated mitophagy initiated by mitochondrial damage.

Mitochondrial transplantation therapy inhibit carbon tetrachloride-induced liver injury through scavenging free radicals and protecting hepatocytes

Zizhen Zhao et al.

Summary: Mitochondrial transplantation therapy shows significant efficacy in treating CCl4-induced liver injury in animal models, improving liver function by increasing ATP supply and reducing free radical damage. The therapy triggers a protective response through UPRmt and rehabilitates mitochondrial function, ultimately enhancing stress resistance and promoting cell survival.

Mitochondria: A critical hub for hepatic stellate cells activation during chronic liver diseases

Devaraj Ezhilarasan

Summary: Research suggests that mitochondria play a crucial role in the activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) during liver injury, with activated HSCs exhibiting increased metabolic activity, glycolysis, and gene expressions related to extracellular matrix (ECM) production. Targeting mitochondrial function may be a potential strategy to control or prevent HSCs activation and hepatic fibrosis progression.

Acute Liver Failure Secondary to Yellow Phosphorus Rodenticide Poisoning: Outcomes at a Center With Dedicated Liver Intensive Care and Transplant Unit

Ravi Mohanka et al.

Summary: Fatal liver failure and cardiotoxicity can result from accidental or suicidal poisoning with yellow phosphorus or metal phosphides. Predictors of survival include lower dose ingestion, absence of cardiotoxicity, lower grade hepatic encephalopathy, and lower SOFA score. Patients requiring liver transplant or experiencing renal failure have higher mortality risk. Early transfer to specialized center and intensive care support can improve outcomes.
