The evidence suggests that lifestyle factors such as alcohol and coffee intake may increase the risk of lung cancer, while tea intake may have a protective effect. However, the quality of evidence is currently low and further research is needed.
The evidence on the role of lifestyle factors in the risk of lung cancer is indicative of their role as risk or protective factors. We found evidence for an increased risk for lung cancer due to alcohol and coffee intake, amidst a protective role for tea intake, though evidence quality is low; evidence on the risk of coffee intake may further be confounded by smoking. Further research is needed to provide high-quality evidence in elucidating the effects of these common habitual lifestyle behaviors and the risk for lung cancer.
