Accelerated vascular age in adolescents with primary hypertension

Lukasz Obrycki et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the differences between vascular age and chronological age in adolescents with primary hypertension. The results showed that the vascular age in the hypertension group was higher than the chronological age, especially in patients with measured hypertension. The difference between predicted vascular age and chronological age may serve as an indicator of early aging in adolescents with hypertension.

Risk of Target Organ Damage in Children With Primary Ambulatory Hypertension: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Jason Chung et al.

Summary: This systematic review found that children and adolescents with ambulatory hypertension have a higher risk of target organ damage, such as left ventricular hypertrophy, elevated left ventricular mass index, increased pulse wave velocity, and elevated carotid intima-media thickness. The findings highlight the importance of optimizing blood pressure control and screening for target organ damage in children with ambulatory hypertension.

Elevated Blood Pressure and Worsening Cardiac Damage During Adolescence

Andrew O. Agbaje

Summary: This study followed up 1856 adolescents for 7 years and found that the prevalence of elevated blood pressure and cardiac damage increased during this period. Elevated blood pressure was associated with left ventricular hypertrophy in female participants and left ventricular diastolic dysfunction in both male and female participants. Higher diastolic blood pressure during baseline was associated with higher cardiac indices during follow-up. These findings suggest that elevated blood pressure may precede cardiac damage in youth.

Childhood Cardiovascular Risk Factors and Adult Cardiovascular Events

David R. Jacobs et al.

Summary: This prospective cohort study found that childhood cardiovascular risk factors, including BMI, systolic blood pressure, lipid levels, and smoking, were associated with cardiovascular events in adulthood. Childhood risk factors and the change in risk score between childhood and adulthood were associated with midlife cardiovascular events.

Cardiovascular Risk Factor Trajectories Since Childhood and Cognitive Performance in Midlife The Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study

Juuso O. Hakala et al.

Summary: The study found that consistently high systolic blood pressure, high serum total cholesterol, and obesity from childhood to midlife were inversely associated with midlife cognitive performance. Moreover, the more cardiovascular risk factors accumulated, the worse was the observed cognitive performance.

Remodeling of Retinal Microcirculation Is Associated With Subclinical Arterial Injury in Hypertensive Children

Anna Rogowska et al.

Summary: The study found that hypertensive children show signs of microcirculation remodeling and decreased neural layer of the retina, associated with hypertensive macrocirculation remodeling characterized by increased carotid intima-media thickness and elevated central systolic blood pressure.
