Palaeomagnetic constraints on a Late Permian to Early Triassic final closure of the Palaeo-Asian Ocean

Donghai Zhang et al.

Summary: This study presents a systematic palaeomagnetic analysis of Upper Permian sedimentary sequences in the Xilinhot Block and proposes a Late Permian to Early Triassic final closure of the Palaeo-Asian Ocean. The study also challenges the existence of a cut-through seaway between the Mongol-Okhotsk and Palaeo-Asian Oceans.

Did the Boreal Realm extend into the equatorial region? New paleomagnetic evidence from the Tuva-Mongol and Amuria blocks

Qiang Ren et al.

Summary: The study reveals that fossil organisms from the Boreal Realm in the Tuva-Mongol Block and Amuria Block were located in low-latitude regions near the equator during the early Carboniferous period. This suggests that the Boreal Realm may have extended into equatorial regions at the onset of the large ice age of the Carboniferous. The updated paleomagnetic database indicates a wide northern temperate belt during the 330-315 Ma period.

An orocline in the eastern Central Asian Orogenic Belt

Yongjiang Liu et al.

Summary: The Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB) in the eastern segment, particularly in NE China, plays a crucial role in understanding the geological evolution of multiple tectonic systems and overprinting. Through detailed geological investigations and regional comparisons, a new orocline tectonic model has been established to explain the tectonic evolution in the region. This study contributes to the understanding of the tectonic evolution in CAOB and NE Asia, suggesting that oroclines may be a common tectonic model for accretionary orogeny.
