The effect of habitat restoration on macroinvertebrate communities in Shaoxi rivers, China

Can the Morphological Quality Index (MQI) be used to determine the ecological status of lowland rivers?

Uncovering process domains in large rivers: Patterns and potential drivers of benthic substrate heterogeneity in two North American riverscapes

Summary: This study used side-scan sonar technology to map riverbed substrate at six sites in the Yellowstone and Missouri rivers, analyzing and visualizing substrate maps using geospatial analysis to relate spatial substrate patterns to process domain structure. Dam cascade alters taxonomic composition of benthic macroinvertebrate community in upper Yangtze River

Summary: Cascade dams have significant impacts on river ecosystems by altering river connectivity, hydrological processes, and hydraulic properties. This study focused on benthic macroinvertebrate assemblages in the lower Jinshajiang River, revealing that dam construction led to considerable changes in macroinvertebrate communities, reducing diversity and abundance of certain taxa while increasing others in the reservoir reach of the mainstream. Maintaining natural river sections between cascade reservoirs is crucial for preserving the biodiversity of benthic macroinvertebrates.
