How debris-flow composition affects bed erosion quantity and mechanisms: An experimental assessment

Lonneke Roelofs et al.

Summary: Understanding erosion and entrainment of material by debris flows is crucial for predicting their volume growth and hazard potential. This study experimentally investigates the effects of composition and volume on erosion processes in small-scale flumes. The results show that erosion increases with gravel fraction and volume, and decreases with increasing solid fraction. The composition of the debris flow affects the erosional mechanisms and quantities, emphasizing the importance of including compositional effects in entrainment models and volume-growth predictions.

Thermal conductivity prediction model for compacted bentonites considering temperature variations

Seok Yoon et al.

Summary: This study investigated the thermal conductivity of Korean compacted bentonites and its variation with temperature, showing that thermal conductivity increased as temperature increased. Regression analysis was conducted to estimate thermal conductivity, taking into account temperature, saturation, and dry density. The regression model had an R-2 value of 0.925 and was verified by an uncertainty metamodel established using the Kriging method.
