Assessing the Co-movements Between Electricity Use and Carbon Emissions in the GCC Area: Evidence from a Wavelet Coherence Method

Ali Matar et al.

Summary: This paper examines the relationship between CO2 emissions and various factors such as electricity consumption, economic growth, urbanization, and trade openness in six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries including Oman, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar, using data from 1965 to 2019. In contrast to previous studies, the authors use the wavelet coherence approach in the frequency domain to complement the time series econometric methods. The findings provide important policy recommendations for environmental planning and contribute valuable information for the development of sustainable energies in the Gulf region.

Residential solar energy consumption and greenhouse gas nexus: Evidence from Morlet wavelet transforms

Sevda Kuskaya

Summary: Global warming is a critical environmental issue, with the increase in greenhouse gas emissions being considered one of the main causes. To address this problem, the use of renewable energy sources instead of fossil fuels is commonly suggested. In today's highly urbanized world, the impact of energy demand in the residential sector on global warming has become a crucial research topic. Among solar energy sectors, the residential sector accounts for a significant share of total solar consumption. However, there is a lack of empirical studies examining the influence of residential solar consumption on environmental quality. Therefore, this paper aims to investigate the impact of residential solar energy usage on CO2 emissions and proposes potential energy policies to enhance its efficiency.

Climate change and financial stability: Natural disaster impacts on global stock markets

Paolo Pagnottoni et al.

Summary: This paper provides a statistical analysis on the impacts of climate change and natural disasters worldwide on international stock markets. The findings indicate that different types of natural hazards and their locations have heterogeneous effects on stock markets. Climatological and biological calamities seem to have the most extreme reactions in international financial markets, and the analyzed stock indexes are more responsive to shocks occurring in European countries. Additionally, a natural disaster risk hedging strategy is developed to identify investment opportunities from mitigating natural risks.

On the Italian public accounts' sustainability: A wavelet approach

Cosimo Magazzino et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes the relationship between public primary deficit and debt for Italian sustainability from 1862 to 2013. The empirical strategy used in this study is wavelet analysis. The findings confirm the lack of fiscal sustainability in the long-run for Italy, highlighting the need for rebalancing the public accounts.

The relationship among railway networks, energy consumption, and real added value in Italy. Evidence form ARDL and Wavelet analysis

Cosimo Magazzino et al.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between railway networks and real GDP in Italy from 1861 to 1970, controlling for energy consumption. Using the ARDL model and Wavelet Analysis, the research finds that railway networks are positively correlated with real value added in the long-run, confirming their role as a determinant of economic growth in the Italian case.

Energy consumption and economic growth in Italy: A wavelet analysis

Cosimo Magazzino et al.

Summary: The study reveals that at lower scales (up to 4 years), the causal influence of economic growth on energy consumption is stronger, while at higher scales, the causal relationship from energy consumption to growth weakens. Bidirectional causality is strengthened at all frequency bands, but the impact of energy consumption on economic growth is observed only at specific frequencies.
