Application of optimized convolutional neural networks for early aided diagnosis of essential tremor: Automatic handwriting recognition and feature analysis

Yanwen Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, Archimedes spiral line freehand sketching samples were collected and analyzed using an optimized Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model. The model was able to effectively classify patients with essential tremor (ET) and healthy controls, providing objective measurement indicators for the auxiliary diagnosis of ET. The results also demonstrated distinct local features in the upper right area of the spiral line samples of most ET patients. The model achieved an average accuracy rate of 89.3% and an average AUC of 0.972 in the test set, with favorable stability and generalization performance.

Early diagnosis of Parkinson's disease using Continuous Convolution Network: Handwriting recognition based on off-line hand drawing without template

Zhu Li et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on studying various features of spiral hand drawing of Parkinson's disease and proposes an auxiliary diagnosis scheme based on hand drawing. Through ablation experiments, it is verified that the visual information of hand drawing can better reflect the characteristics of hand drawing of Parkinson's disease patients. An Archimedes spiral hand drawing dataset is established and a Continuous Convolution Network (CC-Net) is proposed to accurately extract diversified features of hand drawings and obtain higher classification accuracy and stability.

Wearable sensors during drawing tasks to measure the severity of essential tremor

Sheik Mohammed Ali et al.

Summary: This study proposes the use of wearable accelerometer sensors for the quantitative assessment of essential tremor (ET). The results show that the sensor located on the forearm had the best classification and regression results, with moderate to good correlation between Fahn-Tolosa-Marin (FTM) scores and a combination of power spectral density ratio and task time. However, the system could not accurately differentiate ET phenotypes according to the Consensus classification scheme.
