Effect of hierarchical HZSM-5 zeolite on the catalytic depolymerization of organosolv lignin to renewable phenols

Hongwei Zhu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the depolymerization of lignin-to-aromatic products over different hierarchical HM5 zeolite catalyst and explored the effect of mesoporosity on catalytic activity. The results showed that the hierarchical 0.35HM5 catalyst exhibited a significant enhancement in the depolymerization of organosolv lignin and had high stability.

One-step conversion of lignin-derived alkylphenols to light arenes by co-breaking of C-O and C-C bonds

Zegang Qiu et al.

Summary: This study presents a 'shortcut' route for the transformation of alkylphenols by co-breaking the C-O and C-C bonds. Experimental results using 4-ethylphenol as a model compound showed high efficiency in achieving the co-breaking of C-O and C-C bonds. The influence of reaction conditions on the conversion rate and selectivity of products was investigated. Theoretical calculations also revealed the importance of the adsorption configuration of the alkylphenol molecule on the catalyst in the bond breaking process.

Toward rational design of supported vanadia catalysts of lignin conversion to phenol

Yeonjoon Kim et al.

Summary: This study provides rational design guidelines for supported V2O5 catalysts in the catalytic upgrading of lignocellulosic biomass, particularly in the conversion of guaiacol to phenol. The tilt angle of the aryl group in the hydrogen migration transition state is identified as a key descriptor in determining the catalytic activity of phenol formation.

Highly efficient separation of phenolic compounds from low-temperature coal tar by composite extractants with low viscosity

Qian Liu et al.

Summary: Efficient separation of phenolic compounds from low-temperature coal tar using composite extractants was achieved. The COSMO-RS model was used to screen suitable extractants, and [emim][HSO4]:EG (1:2) was identified as the most suitable extractant. The extractant exhibited high separation performance, low viscosity, and can be regenerated and reused. This study provides a promising method for the separation of phenolic compounds.

IM-5 zeolite with abundant narrow mesopores and modulated acidity as stable and selective cracking catalyst

Qingjing Niu et al.

Summary: High-performance IM-5 was prepared through the combined alkaline treatment using tetrapropylammonium hydroxide (TPAOH) and NaOH. The introduction of TPAOH was found to protect Si(4Si, 0Al) and some Si(3Si, 1Al) sites while reducing the amount of strong Bronsted acid sites, improving the mesoporous structure of IM-5. Compared to NaOH treatment alone, TPAOH/NaOH treated IM-5 catalyst exhibited higher light olefins yield and better stability.

Fischer-tropsch synthesis in monolith catalysts coated with hierarchical ZSM-5

Chunxiang Zhu et al.

Summary: Fischer-Tropsch synthesis is explored as a one-step process for converting synthesis gas to hydrocarbons, with novel catalysts for in-situ upgrading of products synthesized and tested. The use of hierarchical ZSM-5 co-catalysts relaxes mass transfer limitations, improving conversion and selectivity. Loss of catalyst activity due to pore plugging is observed, but in-situ regeneration enables stability in FTS performance.
