Review of agglomeration in biomass chemical looping technology

Zhenwu Miao et al.

Summary: This review discusses the influence of three key factors on agglomeration of chemical looping technology, extends existing agglomeration mechanisms, and reviews detection and prevention technologies. High reaction temperature, poor anti-sintering ability of oxygen carriers, and systems with alkali metals and silicon-based materials can easily cause agglomeration. Previous literature has summarized agglomeration mechanisms induced by alkali metals in biomass ash, speculating that they react with the support material to inactivate the active components.

Thermodynamic evaluation on chemical looping conversion of Cd- and Zn-contained phytoremediation plant with different CaO pathways

Xudong Wang et al.

Summary: The thermochemical conversion of phytoremediation plants is crucial for reducing volume and mass while enabling clean and reusable utilization. Chemical looping technology offers a carbon-negative way to utilize biomass, with CaO playing key roles of heavy metal solidification and CO2 sorption. Evaluating the CaO pathway in chemical looping processes can optimize gas production and CO2 capture, leading to more efficient utilization of phytoremediation plants.

Oxygen-Induced Elemental Mercury Oxidation in Chemical Looping Combustion of Coal

Qiuqi Liu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of different flue gas components on the transformation of mercury during the combustion of coal. The results show that HCl, NO, and CO2 promote the oxidation of elemental mercury (Hg-0) while SO2 inhibits its oxidation. The study also compares the oxidation efficiency of Hg-0 by eight commonly used oxygen carriers in chemical looping combustion (CLC). The findings indicate that the oxygen release capacity of the oxygen carriers influences the oxidation efficiency of Hg-0. O2 is identified as the core species affecting mercury transformation in CLC.

Spatiotemporal statistical characteristics of multiphase flow behaviors in fuel reactor for separated-gasification chemical looping combustion of solid fuel

Xudong Wang et al.

Summary: Separated-gasification chemical looping combustion (SGCLC) technology achieves high conversion efficiency for solid fuels through a fuel reactor designed as a gasifier and a reduction reactor. Computational fluid dynamic (CFD) analysis on a fuel reactor prototype shows that increasing gas velocity enhances flow characteristics in the gasifier, while increasing oxygen carrier flowrate improves inventory in the reduction reactor. Improved gas-oxygen carrier mixing can enhance combustion reaction efficiency.

Mercury removal by Co3O4@TiO2@Fe2O3 magnetic core-shell oxygen carrier in chemical-looping combustion

Kailong Xu et al.

Summary: Mercury pollution, primarily from coal combustion, poses a serious threat to both human health and ecosystems. A magnetic material, CTF, was developed to enhance the removal of elemental mercury (Hg-0) during chemical-looping combustion of coal (CLCC). Results showed that CTF promoted the conversion of Hg-0 to Hg2+/HgP in the presence of HCl, contributing to a higher mercury removal efficiency.
