Recovery of arsenic oxide, harmless gypsum residue and clean water by lime neutralization and precipitation*

Lei Xu et al.

Summary: The nonferrous metal smelting industry in China produces a large amount of arsenic-containing acidic wastewater, which hinders the industry's development. This study examined low-cost and effective methods for treating acidic wastewater. Lime neutralization and compound salt precipitation were used to remove arsenic from the wastewater, and the residues were treated harmlessly by H2SO4 leaching to recover As2O3. The results showed that the lime treatment process was cost-effective and produced non-hazardous solid waste.

A feasible strategy for deep arsenic removal and efficient tungsten recovery from hazardous tungsten residue waste with the concept of weathering process strengthening

Xinsheng Wu et al.

Summary: A feasible and novel strategy for deep arsenic removal and efficient tungsten recovery from tungsten residue waste (TRW) is proposed based on the concept of weathering process strengthening. This closed-loop strategy shows great promise for the harmless treatment and tungsten recovery of TRW on an industrial scale to promote circular economy and environmental protection.

Determination on the activity of formed CaSO4 for arsenic adsorption during arsenic capture by CaO with the presence of SO2: Experimental and density functional theory study

Xiaoyu Li et al.

Summary: Experimental and theoretical studies showed that SO2 significantly inhibited the arsenic adsorption by CaO, primarily due to plugging and sulfation effects. Theoretical calculations also revealed the relatively weaker activity of CaSO4 compared to CaO in arsenic adsorption.

Gaseous Arsenic Capture in Flue Gas by CuCl2-Modified Halloysite Nanotube Composites with High-Temperature NOx and SOx Resistance

Xue-Lei Duan et al.

Summary: In this study, CuCl2-modified halloysite nanotubes (CuCl2-HNTs) were successfully prepared as an adsorbent for the removal of arsenic from high-temperature coal combustion flue gas. The CuCl2-HNTs showed high arsenic adsorption capacity and tolerance to high concentrations of gases. The captured arsenic could be stable at high temperatures.

Insight into High Temperature Gas-Phase Arsenic Capture by a CaO-Ca12Al14O33 Synthetic Sorbent

Zhongli He et al.

Summary: The study investigated the gas-phase arsenic capture by a CaO-Ca12Al14O33 synthetic sorbent at 1000-1200 degrees C in simulated flue gas. Results showed that the synthetic sorbent with 15 wt % Ca12Al14O33 exhibited better arsenic adsorption performance at higher temperatures, with the appropriate conditions for arsenic capture identified at 1000-1100 degrees C.

Pengcheng Zhao et al.

Summary: The study prepared microscopic spherical alpha-Fe2O3 sorbent by one-step hydrothermal method for effective arsenic capture in coal-fired flue gas. Factors such as reaction temperature, sulfur dioxide, nitric oxide, oxygen, and arsenic concentration were investigated for their adsorption performance effects. The sorbent showed promising arsenic removal performance and sulfur dioxide resistance, making it a potential material for arsenic removal.

The redistribution of arsenic during the interaction between high-temperature flue gas and ash

Wenting Xu et al.

Summary: The transformation of As in the post-combustion zone has a significant impact on its emission characteristics. High As content in flue gas can lead to an increase in As content in ash, while a reaction between gaseous Na in the flue gas and residual As in ash causes a significant amount of As release, resulting in the redistribution of As.

Pseudodesulfovibrio cashew sp. Nov., a Novel Deep-Sea Sulfate-Reducing Bacterium, Linking Heavy Metal Resistance and Sulfur Cycle

Rikuan Zheng et al.

Summary: Sulfur cycling in marine sediments is primarily driven by sulfate-reducing bacteria, leading to the production of reduced sulfide and insoluble metal sulfides. A novel sulfate-reducing bacterium, Pseudodesulfovibrio cashew SRB007, was isolated from deep-sea cold seeps and demonstrated strong resistance and removal capabilities against various heavy metal ions. The dissimilatory sulfate reduction by P. cashew SRB007 contributes to its ability to remove heavy metals through the formation of insoluble metal sulfides.

Anaerobic As(III) Oxidation Coupled with Nitrate Reduction and Attenuation of Dissolved Arsenic by Noviherbaspirillum Species

Yi-Fei Wu et al.

Summary: The bacterium strain HC18 belonging to the genus Noviherbaspirillum was found to oxidize both As(III) and Fe(II) under anoxic nitrate-reducing conditions. However, it was unable to oxidize As(III) to As(V) under oxic conditions. This bacterium shows potential for bioremediation of arsenic-contaminated environments.
