Approaches towards the development of heteropolyacid-based high temperature membranes for PEM fuel cells

Wessam Nimir et al.

Summary: Operating PEMFCs at higher temperatures offers benefits such as enhanced kinetics, heat recovery, and better water management. However, existing membranes need modification or new membranes need to be developed to withstand high temperature operation. Heteropolyacids (HPAs) have been investigated as additives in PEMFCs membranes to improve proton conductivity and reduce fuel crossover. Successful implementation of HPAs requires proper immobilization techniques in the polymer matrix.

Designing hydrotalcite-derived CoAlO catalysts for highly selective catalytic CO2 methanation

Zhihao Liu et al.

Summary: We report a highly efficient layered CoAlO catalyst, fabricated by facile direct reduction of hydrotalcite-like precursors, for efficient catalytic CO2 methanation to produce methane at low temperature and atmospheric pressure. It displayed outstanding space-time yield (STY) of 0.46 g(CH4)center dot g(cat)(-1)center dot h(-1), which was about 3 times than that of supported catalysts under the given conditions, and good stability within 200-h durability test. The designed CoAlO catalyst had appropriate alkaline and reducibility, which could significantly enhance adsorption and activation of CO2. The formation mechanism of active Co species was clearly revealed and the structure-activity relationship of the catalysts were clarified in detail. This work offers a promising catalytic design for efficient CO2 methanation.

Kang Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of nickel particle size on CO2 methanation and demonstrates that small nickel nanoparticles supported on SiO2 can significantly enhance catalytic performance. In situ DRIFTS results suggest that small Ni particles favor the formation of key intermediates and thus promote the CO2 methanation reaction. These findings provide valuable insights for designing effective CO2 methanation catalysts by tuning the size of Ni nanoparticles.
