A study on the adsorption behaviors of three hydrophobic quinolones by ordered mesoporous CMK-3

Ruixiong Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of ordered mesoporous carbon nanomaterials (CMK-3) were synthesized as efficient adsorbents for quinolones in aqueous solutions. The CMK-3 materials exhibited high specific surface area and mesoporous channels, resulting in significant adsorption capacities for three hydrophobic quinolones. The adsorption kinetics followed a pseudo-second kinetic model, and the adsorption isotherm curves conformed to Langmuir isotherm model. The adsorption processes were found to be spontaneous endothermic, and the mechanism involved pore diffusion, hydrophobic bond, and electron donor-acceptor interaction.

Hierarchical porous carbon derived from coal and biomass for high performance supercapacitors

Xiaoyun Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, soluble portions obtained from the co-thermal dissolution of rice husk and coal were used as carbon precursors to synthesize 3D hierarchical porous carbons. The electrochemical properties of the resulting carbons were investigated, and the results showed that the composition of the carbon precursors played a crucial role in determining the characteristics of the carbon materials. Nitrogen-containing organic matters in the precursors improved the conductivity, while oxygen-containing compounds contributed to pseudocapacitance. Moreover, carbon precursors with a high content of unsaturated structures exhibited excellent electrochemical properties.

Xuan Liu et al.

Summary: A novel composite material based on graphene oxide and molecular sieve 4A (GO/4A) was designed for efficient removal of Rhodamine B (RB) in water. The adsorption capacity of GO/4A-3 for RB reached a high value of 62.81 mg.g(-1) at pH 3, and its removal performance was improved by 291% compared to acid-modified 4A molecular sieve. The successful combination of GO and 4A molecular sieve also improved the poor separation performance of GO itself. Establishing a large-scale Greenhouse Gas Removal sector in the United Kingdom by 2030: First mover dilemmas

Mark Workman et al.

Summary: In June 2019, the UK legislated a target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. This will require the development of a technical Greenhouse Gas Removal (GGR) sector, potentially generating over 60 million metric tons of negative emissions annually by 2050. In October 2021, the UK pledged to deploy at least 5 million metric tons of engineered negative emissions by 2030. However, the current deployment of engineered negative emissions is less than 0.5 thousand metric tons annually. Scaling up to meet the targets for 2030 and 2050 will require coordinated engagement from first movers and integration of multiple value chains, along with substantial societal engagement. This scaling is crucial for addressing the impacts of climate change and presents both financial and non-financial challenges.
