Rational screening of metal catalysts for selective oxidation of glycerol to glyceric acid from microkinetic analysis

Hao Yan et al.

Summary: This study reveals the mechanism of selective polyol oxidation reaction through microkinetic modeling and finds that polarization of the metal surface and electron transfer from OH- to metal atoms play a promoting role in glycerol adsorption. In addition, a linear relationship between adsorption energy and formation energy is established to obtain an activity map, which shows that Pt and Ir metals have the highest catalytic activity.

Interfacial compatibility critically controls Ru/TiO2 metal-support interaction modes in CO2 hydrogenation

Jun Zhou et al.

Summary: Supports play a crucial role in determining the catalytic performance of metal nanoparticles. The interfacial compatibility between metal and support can significantly affect the metal-support interaction modes and catalytic performances in CO2 hydrogenation. The study demonstrates that the metal-support interfacial compatibility of Ru/TiO2 can critically control the catalyst's performance.

Insight into the performance of different Pt/KL catalysts for n-alkane (C6-C8) aromatization: catalytic role of zeolite channels

Mengxia Yan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the catalytic role of zeolite channel architecture in n-alkane aromatization by depositing uniformly dispersed Pt clusters on KL zeolite. The results show that Pt clusters inside the zeolite channels can facilitate n-alkane aromatization, and the superiority of the channel architecture decreases as the alkane size increases. DFT calculations further reveal the relationship between the catalytic role of the channels and carbon numbers.

Ternary platinum-cobalt-indium nanoalloy on ceria as a highly efficient catalyst for the oxidative dehydrogenation of propane using CO2

Feilong Xing et al.

Summary: Researchers have developed a highly efficient Pt-Co-In ternary nanoalloy catalyst on CeO2 for CO2 oxidative dehydrogenation of propane, which shows high catalytic activity, C3H6 selectivity, stability, and CO2 utilization efficiency. The combination of platinum, indium, and cobalt improves the selectivity and reduction ability of CO2, and the stability is enhanced by CO2 activation ability of the alloy and oxygen releasing ability of the CeO2 support.

PO43- Coordinated Robust Single-Atom Platinum Catalyst for Selective Polyol Oxidation

Hao Yan et al.

Summary: Efficient catalytic conversion in aqueous solution with excellent resistance against leaching remains a challenge. The design of a single-atom Pt-1/hydroxyapatite (HAP) catalyst results in remarkable catalytic selectivity and stability for the oxidation of C-2-C-4 polyols to hydroxy acids. The Pt-(O-P) linkages with PO43- serve as active sites for activation of C-H bonds and destabilization of the transition state, increasing the selectivity of hydroxy acids. The strong PO43--coordination effect provides electrostatic stabilization and ensures superior leaching resistance for Pt-1/HAP catalyst.

CO2-assisted ethane aromatization over zinc and phosphorous modified ZSM-5 catalysts

Chunyan Tu et al.

Summary: Experimental studies and DFT calculations were conducted to investigate the tandem reactions of CO2-assisted oxidative dehydrogenation and aromatization (CO2-ODA) of ethane over ZSM-5 modified with zinc (Zn) and phosphorus (P). Results showed that the Zn/P-ZSM-5 catalyst exhibited higher ethane conversion, enhanced aromatics yield, and better stability compared to direct dehydrogenation and aromatization (DDA) reaction. The presence of CO2 reduced carbon deposition, stabilized Zn species, and facilitated the generation of more liquid aromatics in CO2-assisted ethane aromatization. Insights into the mechanisms of CO2-ODA over the Zn/P-ZSM-5 catalyst were provided by in situ characterization and DFT calculations.

Mechanistic Insight into the Promotional Effect of CO2 on Propane Aromatization over Zn/ZSM-5

Huahua Fan et al.

Summary: Using density functional theory calculations, this study investigates the reaction networks and key steps in propane aromatization over Zn/ZSM-5 catalyst. The results show that Zn-Lewis acid sites play a crucial role in propane dehydrogenation, while propene aromatization proceeds under the combined action of Bronsted and Zn-Lewis acid sites. Moreover, introducing a second metal component can promote the removal of carbon deposits, leading to enhanced catalyst stability and more active sites for aromatization.

Tetrahedrally coordinated W(VI) species induced Lewis acid for stable catalytic cracking of 1-hexene to propene

Junshu Chen et al.

Summary: Reasonable regulation of acidity in ZSM-5 catalysts, by introducing highly dispersed tetrahedrally coordinated W(VI) species, greatly improves the catalytic cracking performance for the production of propene from 1-hexene. The introduction of W enhances the stability of the catalyst structure, eliminates non-skeleton aluminum and excessive Bronsted acid sites, and inhibits carbon/coke deposition. The active tetrahedrally coordinated W(VI) species also enhance propene selectivity by inhibiting product polymerization. Optimizing parameters such as Si/Al ratio, temperature, and weight hourly space velocity allows for high conversion and selectivity to be maintained over a long reaction period.

Tailoring Facets of α-Mn2O3 Microcrystalline Catalysts for Enhanced Selective Oxidation of Glycerol to Glycolic Acid

Hao Yan et al.

Summary: The study showed that the different morphologies of Mn2O3 catalysts have a significant impact on their catalytic performance, with surface oxygen vacancies on the (001) facets closely related to catalytic activity, and the (111) facets helping to prevent over-oxidation of products, thereby improving glycolic acid selectivity. The Mn2O3-truncated octahedron catalyst with both (001) and (111) facets exhibited high catalytic activity and glycolic acid selectivity simultaneously.
