Structural Framework-Guided Universal Design of High-Entropy Compounds for Efficient Energy Catalysis

Han Wu et al.

Summary: High-entropy compounds with multiple components have great potential and have attracted attention in various fields. However, it is difficult to achieve stability and synthesis of high-entropy compounds due to their high complexity. In this study, a design strategy was proposed to stabilize the compound structures by using one metal site to accommodate different elements. Several typical metal compounds with bimetallic sites have been synthesized into high-entropy compounds, including perovskite hydroxides, layered double hydroxide, spinel sulfide, perovskite fluoride, and spinel oxides. High-entropy perovskite hydroxides (HEPHs) have been successfully synthesized with a wide range of components, even a septenary component, and exhibit great oxygen evolution activity. This work provides a design platform for the development of high-entropy compound systems with potential for electrocatalysts.

Interfacial Fe-O-Ni-O-Fe Bonding Regulates the Active Ni Sites of Ni-MOFs via Iron Doping and Decorating with FeOOH for Super-Efficient Oxygen Evolution

Cheng-Fei Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the integration of Fe dopant and interfacial FeOOH into Ni-MOFs, forming Fe-O-Ni-O-Fe bonding, which elucidates the remarkable electrocatalytic performance of Ni-MOFs. The Fe-O-Ni-O-Fe bonding facilitates the distorted coordinated structure of the Ni site and regulates the adsorption behavior of key intermediates. The Fe-doped-(Ni-MOFs)/FeOOH with interfacial Fe-O-Ni-O-Fe bonding exhibits superior catalytic performance for OER with low overpotential and excellent stability.

MXene-Based Quantum Dots Optimize Hydrogen Production via Spontaneous Evolution of Cl- to O-Terminated Surface Groups

Yuhua Liu et al.

Summary: MXene quantum dots (MQDs) offer wide applications due to their abundant surface chemistry, tunable energy-level structure, and unique properties. However, controlling the types of surface groups and tuning the energy-level structure remains a challenge. In this study, we demonstrated the spontaneous evolution of surface groups in Ti2CTx MQDs, resulting in a low Gibbs free energy in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Our findings also showed excellent operational stability in HER.

Oxidation mechanism for coal-assisted water electrolysis for hydrogen production: Evolution of different structures in coal molecules with reaction depth

Cong Chen et al.

Summary: Coal-assisted water electrolysis can produce pure hydrogen under mild conditions and reduce electricity consumption by 40-60%. Understanding the oxidation mechanism of coal particles during the electrolysis process is crucial for controlling the overall oxidation process. This study investigated the oxidation of coal particles at different reaction temperatures and characterized the changes in coal molecule structures using various analytical methods. The results showed that oxidation mainly occurred on the external surface and pores of coal particles, with aliphatic carbons being the main oxidation sites. The oxidation rate of C-O structure was faster, while C = O and COOH had slower oxidation rates, which controlled the overall coal oxidation process.

Transient analysis of a green hydrogen production and storage system using Alkaline electrolyzer

Yuning Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the time-dependent behavior of a solar-based hydrogen production system using the TRNSYS program. The results show that hydrogen production is significantly influenced by seasonal climate changes, with the highest output power of photovoltaic panels in summer and spring. Limitations on storage tank volume restrict hydrogen production, particularly in summer. Increasing the tank volume and utilizing an increased discharge plan in summer can improve the productivity of the system.
