Risk factors for total ankle arthroplasty failure: A Dutch Arthroplasty Register study

Total Ankle Replacement Versus Arthrodesis for End-Stage Ankle Osteoarthritis: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Summary: This study compared the outcomes of total ankle replacement (TAR) and ankle fusion (AF) as surgical treatments for end-stage ankle osteoarthritis. The results showed that both TAR and AF led to improvements in clinical scores, but differed in terms of adverse events. TAR was associated with more wound healing complications and nerve injuries, while AF had more thromboembolism and nonunion.

The outcomes of revision surgery for a failed ankle arthroplasty

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review to assess the outcomes of revision total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) in terms of surgery type, functional outcomes, and reoperations. The results showed that revision TAA can lead to improved functional outcomes but has a considerable risk of failure and reoperation. Conversion of TAA to fusion also has high rates of nonunion.

Ankle Range of Motion Following 3-Component Total Ankle Arthroplasty

Summary: Through a retrospective analysis of 357 primary TAAs, it was found that patients with lower preoperative sagittal ROM gained more motion postoperatively, and percutaneous HCL had no significant effect on ankle ROM development. Furthermore, long-term follow-up indicated that patients with lower ankle ROM tended to experience higher pain levels.

What is the role of cemented fixation in total knee arthroplasty? The two-year results of a randomized RSA controlled trial

Summary: The study found no significant difference in RSA secondary stabilization measurements between cemented, uncemented, and hybrid fixation in total knee arthroplasty. Patient-reported outcome measures significantly improved in all treatment groups at 24 months post-surgery, with no significant difference observed between the three groups. The type of fixation to the bone is not expected to influence the long-term outcome for the implant used in this study.
