Rapid preparation of starch nanocrystals by the mixed acid of sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid

Sai Li et al.

Summary: Waxy maize starch nanocrystals were prepared for the first time using a mixed acid of sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid. The physicochemical properties, crystalline structure, and particle size of the starch nanocrystals were measured. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the nanocrystals prepared by mixed acid and sulfuric acid in terms of particle morphology, group structure, and surface elements. The yield of the nanocrystals prepared by mixed acid was lower but the preparation time was significantly shorter, and they exhibited higher crystallinity and smaller particle size compared to those prepared by sulfuric acid.

Preparation of graphene-starch composite film and its application in sensor materials

Sai Li et al.

Summary: A composite film composed of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and starch nano crystals (SNC) was prepared. SNC showed good dispersity on graphene and had a significant impact on the morphology and microstructure of the composite film. The introduction of SNC and the efficient reduction process of graphene oxide (GO) resulted in the composite films exhibiting good mechanical properties and high electrical conductivity.

Pickering emulsion stabilized by cellulosic fibers: Morphological properties-interfacial stabilization-rheological behavior relationships

Tianzhong Yuan et al.

Summary: The study investigated the stabilization mechanism induced by different morphologies of cellulosic fiber in O/W emulsion, finding that completely nanofibrillated cellulose formed a denser covering layer with higher stability and bridging flocculation capacity, resulting in a stronger droplet-fiber 3D network structure.

Multifunctional 3D cationic starch/nanofibrillated cellulose/silver nanoparticles nanocomposite cryogel: Synthesis, adsorption, and antibacterial characteristics

Emad K. Radwan et al.

Summary: The new 3D nanocomposite cryogel combines the advantages of cationic starch, nanofibrillated cellulose, and silver nanoparticles for enhanced adsorption and antibacterial properties. Green synthesized silver nanoparticles were added to the cryogel to improve its performance in removing dyes and bacteria from wastewater. The cryogel exhibited good stability, high porosity, and reduced surface area when Ag NPs were added, making it an efficient solution for water treatment.
