FTO promotes cervical cancer cell proliferation, colony formation, migration and invasion via the regulation of the BMP4/Hippo/YAP1/TAZ pathway

Jinyuan Huang et al.

Summary: This study confirmed the tumor-promoting role of FTO in cervical cancer cells and identified the regulation of the BMP4/Hippo/YAP1/TAZ pathway as the underlying mechanism. These findings suggest that FTO acts as an oncogenic molecule and the FTO/BMP4 Hippo/YAP1/TAZ axis may serve as valuable targets for cervical cancer treatment.

Targeting Apoptosis in Cancer

Puneet Singh et al.

Summary: This review discusses apoptosis modulators in cancer and their recent developments. Through the combined evolution of medicinal chemistry and molecular biology, innovative inducers of apoptosis and inhibitors of anti-apoptotic regulators have been discovered. Many of these agents are now being tested in early-phase trials in cancer patients. We believe that apoptosis targeting holds promise as a relevant strategy in cancer therapeutics.

Adjuvant Chemotherapy versus Radiotherapy in High-risk, Early-stage Endometrioid Endometrial Carcinoma

Min Wu et al.

Summary: In high-risk early-stage endometrioid endometrial carcinoma patients, adjuvant chemotherapy and adjuvant radiotherapy (with or without chemotherapy) showed no significant difference in prognosis, although chemotherapy exhibited a trend of reducing distant relapse compared to radiotherapy. Both treatments were well-tolerated with only neutropenia and thrombocytopenia reported as grade 3 or worse adverse events.

Endometrial cancer

Emma J. Crosbie et al.

Summary: Endometrial cancer is the most common gynaecological cancer in high income countries, with a global rise in incidence. Obesity is the major underlying cause, posing challenges for diagnosis and treatment. Early presentation with postmenopausal bleeding ensures cure, but advanced cases have poor prognosis. Minimally invasive surgical staging and targeted chemotherapeutic strategies are important advances.

Overexpression of BcERF3 increases the biosynthesis of saikosaponins in Bupleurum chinense

Wenjing Han et al.

Summary: BcERF3 is a transcription factor in Chaihu, involved in the biosynthesis of saikosaponins. It is expressed at higher levels in the roots and localized in the nucleus when transiently expressed in tobacco leaves. Overexpression of BcERF3 increases saikosaponin content in Chaihu and upregulates the expression of the key enzyme-encoding gene beta-AS involved in its biosynthesis.

Mussaendoside O, a N-triterpene cycloartane saponin, attenuates RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis and inhibits lipopolysaccharide-induced bone loss

Minju Gal et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that mussaendoside O has the ability to inhibit the differentiation of cells into osteoclasts induced by RANKL and can suppress LPS-induced bone resorption. The underlying mechanism involves the inhibition of the RANKL-activated c-Fos/NFATc1 signaling pathway.

Triterpenoid saponins from Ilex pubescens promote blood circulation in blood stasis syndrome by regulating sphingolipid metabolism and the PI3K/AKT/eNOS

Jie Chen et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the mechanisms by which triterpenoid saponins of Ilex pubescens promote blood circulation through modulation of sphingolipid metabolism and activation of the PI3K/AKT/eNOS signaling pathway. The experimental results showed that triterpenoid saponins improved blood biochemical function, protected blood vessels, and maintained the normal morphology of blood vessels.

Summary: Saikosaponin d (SSd), an important bioactive compound of Bupleurum scorzonerifolium, was found to be produced by two endophytic fungi strains isolated from this plant in this study. This is the first discovery of SSd-producing endophytic fungi from B. scorzonerifolium. The findings contribute to the development of a more convenient method for SSd production.

ERK signaling for cell migration and invasion

Shiela C. C. Samson et al.

Summary: The RAS-ERK pathway is crucial in promoting cell migration and invasion, with steady-state ERK activity playing a role in promoting both single cell and collective migration and invasion. ERK drives actin polymerization and adhesion turnover for edge protrusion, while cell contraction stimulates cell movement in epithelial sheets.

Necroptosis, pyroptosis and apoptosis: an intricate game of cell death

Damien Bertheloot et al.

Summary: Cell death is a fundamental physiological process in all living organisms, playing important roles in embryonic development, organ maintenance, aging, immune responses, and autoimmunity. Recent research has significantly increased our understanding of the mechanisms orchestrating different types of programmed cell death and how they affect the balance of cell fates. Various modalities of cell death, such as apoptosis, necroptosis, and pyroptosis, have been studied to highlight both common and unique pathways and their impact on the surrounding cells and the organism as a whole.
