Effect of recycled seashells on concrete properties: A comprehensive review of the recent studies

Hussein M. Hamada et al.

Summary: Population increase and building construction contribute to environmental pollution through high carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations. The depletion of traditional concrete materials necessitates finding sustainable alternatives, such as seashells, which can be used as cement replacements in concrete production. However, seashell addition can reduce concrete strength while improving other properties like porosity and absorption. Therefore, further research is needed to determine optimal conditions for utilizing seashells as renewable and sustainable concrete materials with lower replacement levels, which could contribute to reducing CO2 emissions.

The use of ultrasound-assisted precipitation for the production of micro-sized crystals with a narrow CSD

Magdalena Stec et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of ultrasounds parameters on precipitation process and product characteristics. The results show that the use of ultrasounds can promote the formation of solid crystals with smaller particle size, narrower particle distribution, and reduced agglomeration. Furthermore, conscious selection of ultrasounds parameters and fluid dynamics conditions can result in the achievement of product with pre-defined characteristics.

Quality changes in fish sausages supplemented with pangas protein isolates as affected by frozen storage and casing material

Vijay Kumar Reddy Surasani et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of pangas protein isolates and casing material on frozen storage characteristics of pangas mince sausages. The results showed that as storage time increased, expressible fluid content increased, while water holding capacity and cooking yield values decreased. Changes in protein structure and gelling ability were also observed. Sausages packed in LDPE casings had higher oxidation and bacterial counts compared to those in cellulose casings, but sensory scores remained relatively consistent regardless of casing material and protein isolates.

Effect of sodium bicarbonate on textural properties and acceptability of gel from unwashed Asian sea bass mince

Avtar Singh et al.

Summary: This study found that the addition of sodium bicarbonate (SB) at appropriate levels can significantly improve the breaking force and water holding capacity of Asian sea bass mince gels. Fish mince gels with 80% water content and added with 0.05% and 0.1% SB showed the highest increase in breaking force, while a lower increase was observed for gels with 85% water content. It was also observed that the addition of SB resulted in a decrease in whiteness and an increase in water holding capacity.

A proper framework for studying noise from jets with non-compact sources

Woutijn J. Baars et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the acoustic source field produced by a laboratory-scale heated jet with specific Mach numbers, using arrays of microphones traversed across the jet's acoustic field. The analysis identifies the dominant sound production mechanism and studies the spatial topography of the overall sound pressure level. By analysing the sound field on a per-frequency basis, unique data-informed polar patterns of sound intensity are revealed for each frequency, which can be accurately propagated using the inverse square law to gauge errors encountered when calculating sound pressure spectrum levels and acoustic power. The measurement strategy proposed in this study has potential applications in comparing facilities, extrapolating measurements to different scales, validating models, and developing noise control strategies.
