Thermodynamic Study of a Combined Power and Refrigeration System for Low-Grade Heat Energy Source

Saboora Khatoon et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the thermal performance analysis of an organic Rankine cycle powered vapor compression refrigeration cycle for a set of working fluids for each cycle, also known as a dual fluid system. The analysis includes the study of different working fluid combinations to determine the most efficient combination for both cycles, achieving the desired temperature with specific performance criteria. By systematically analyzing the required work input, mass flow rate, and heat input, the study identified the optimal working fluid combinations for the refrigeration cycle and the organic Rankine cycle. Further scrutiny revealed that the combination of R123 in the refrigeration cycle with propane in the Rankine cycle demonstrated the highest efficiency and coefficient of performance values at 40 degrees C.
