High Starch in Diet Leads to Disruption of Hepatic Glycogen Metabolism and Liver Fibrosis in Largemouth Bass (Micropterus salmoides), Which is Mediated by the PI3K/Akt Signaling Pathway

Liang Zhong et al.

Summary: This study investigated the damage and mechanism of high starch intake on the liver of largemouth bass. The results showed that high starch intake caused liver whitening, increased hepatopancreas index, and elevated serum AST and ALT levels. Histopathological observations revealed severe vacuolization and necrotizing hepatitis in the liver. High starch intake led to increased blood glucose and insulin, promoting the synthesis and accumulation of hepatic glycogen, resulting in hepatocyte damage and liver fibrosis. Additionally, high starch induced oxidative stress and hepatocyte apoptosis. Transcriptome analysis identified the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway as a crucial regulator in this process.

Trimetazidine inhibits liver fibrosis and hepatic stellate cell proliferation and blocks transforming growth factor-β (TGFβ)/Smad signaling in vitro and in vivo

Wenwen Ding et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that Trimetazidine (TMZ) can inhibit liver fibrosis and hepatic stellate cell proliferation induced by CCl4 and TGF-beta. TMZ exerts its effects by blocking the activation of TGF beta/Smad signaling pathway. These findings provide new insights into the potential application of TMZ in the treatment of liver fibrosis.

Glycocholic acid supplementation improved growth performance and alleviated tissue damage in the liver and intestine in Pelteobagrus fulvidraco fed a high-pectin diet

Shibin Yao et al.

Summary: A study found that a high-pectin diet can cause growth retardation, hepatic cholestasis, and enteritis in Pelteobagrus fulvidraco. This study investigated the potential alleviating effects of supplementation with glycocholic acid (GCA) and found that GCA improved growth performance and alleviated hepatic cholestasis and tissue damage.

A multi-trait evaluation framework to assess the consequences of polyculture in fish production: An application for pikeperch in recirculated aquaculture systems

Nellya Amoussou et al.

Summary: Polyculture provides an alternative to monoculture in recirculated aquaculture systems, but a thorough assessment of its consequences is crucial to avoid detrimental effects. Integrating multiple traits related to different functions is essential for a reliable evaluation of fish polycultures. Weighting the traits involved in multivariate analysis can further support the multi-trait assessment in future research.

Regulation of SUMOylation Targets Associated With Wnt/β-Catenin Pathway

Linlin Fan et al.

Summary: Abnormally activated Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway plays a crucial role in promoting malignant tumor occurrence and development, and precise regulation of this pathway may contribute to the treatment of certain malignancies. SUMOylation as a post-translational modification of proteins plays a major role in the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway and has potential therapeutic targets.

The transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β/Smads) pathway regulates collagen synthesis and deposition in swim bladder of Chu's croaker (Nibea coibor) stimulated by proline

Hua Rong et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of dietary Pro supplementation on collagen synthesis and deposition in the swim bladder of Chu's croaker. It was found that an optimal Pro supplementation level of 19.36 g kg(-1) significantly increased collagen content. The TGF-beta/Smad signaling pathway played a crucial role in regulating collagen synthesis and deposition in the swim bladder.
