Immunostimulants for shrimp aquaculture: paving pathway towards shrimp sustainability

Summary: Food security is a global concern, and aquaculture plays an important role in meeting the global food demand. Disease outbreaks in shrimp aquaculture, particularly white spot disease caused by the white spot syndrome virus, have been a major issue. Antibiotics have been used to control the disease, but their accumulation in food webs has adverse effects on humans. Immunostimulants have been identified as a more eco-friendly alternative, enhancing the shrimp's immune system. Proper sanitation procedures combined with the use of immunostimulants may be a viable approach for preserving shrimp aquaculture worldwide.
