Nitrogen Alleviated the Deterioration of Rice Quality by Affecting the Accumulation of Grain Storage Protein Under Elevated Temperature

Yufei Zhao et al.

Summary: The adverse effect of future global warming on rice quality is significant, and nitrogen has been proven to mitigate this impact by regulating grain nitrogen metabolism and storage proteins under elevated temperature. Transcriptional regulation of storage protein synthesis genes by nitrogen provides insights into the formation mechanism of rice quality under elevated temperature and the establishment of rational nitrogen regulation pathways for high-quality rice production under global warming in the future.

Effects of free-air temperature increase on grain yield and greenhouse gas emissions in a double rice cropping system

Haiyuan Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that free-air temperature increase (FATI) does not affect grain yield and CH4 emissions in double rice cropping systems, but stimulates N2O emissions. This could contribute to a positive feedback with future climate warming.

Long-term warming and elevated CO2 increase ammonia-oxidizing microbial communities and accelerate nitrification in paddy soil

Muhammad Ahmed Waqas et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of climate warming and elevated CO2 levels on the community structure and population size of nitrifying bacteria. Results showed that increased CO2 and temperature enhanced the abundance of AOB and the nitrification rate, while AOA were less sensitive to these climate change factors. The nitrifying bacterial community exhibited remarkable resilience to the individual and interactive impacts of warming and elevated CO2.

Summary: Rice paddies, regulated by nitrogen fertilization, are significant greenhouse gas emitters. Optimizing nitrogen use to minimize global warming potential and maintain sufficient yield is crucial. Studies show strong relationships between nitrogen rate and CH4/N2O emissions in rice systems.

Low N2O emissions from wheat in a wheat-rice double cropping system due to manure substitution are associated with changes in the abundance of functional microbes

Delei Kong et al.

Summary: The study found that partially replacing chemical N fertilizer with urea can reduce N2O emissions from wheat fields without compromising yield. The abundance of ammonium-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and nosZ gene increased with N fertilization, especially in the NPKM treatment.

Low nitrogen use efficiency of dual-purpose crops: Causes and cures

S. J. Sprague et al.

Summary: This study reviewed 14 field experiments in southeastern Australia to investigate the responses of dual-purpose crops to nitrogen fertilization. The results suggest that delaying nitrogen application for two weeks after grazing can increase the nitrogen demand, yield, and nitrogen use efficiency of grazed crops.
