Adsorptive performance of carbon modified chitosan biopolymer for cationic dye removal: kinetic, isotherm, thermodynamic, and mechanism study

Ali H. Jawad et al.

Summary: Chitosan was successfully modified with activated charcoal to create a composite biosorbent for removing thionine dye from water. The optimal conditions for dye removal were determined, and the adsorption process was found to follow pseudo-second-order kinetics and the Freundlich isotherm model. The maximum adsorption capacity was recorded at 303 K. Thermodynamic analysis showed that the adsorption process was endothermic and spontaneous. The adsorption mechanism likely involved electrostatic interactions, hydrogen bonding, and pi-pi interactions.

Ehsan Nozad et al.

Summary: This research focuses on the design and development of solvent-resistant nano-filtration membranes using an Interpenetrating Polymer Network (IPN) system. The obtained membranes showed dimensional stability, solvent resistance, and improved tensile strength compared to pure membranes. The membranes exhibited excellent stability in acetone, n-heptane, and dimethylformamide solvents and had increased efficiency in removing methylene blue and methyl orange dyes. Additionally, the membranes were found to have a hydrophilic nature, making them more resistant to fouling.

Removal of methylene blue pollutant from the textile industry by adsorption onto Zeolithe: Kinetic and thermodynamic study

Moussa Abbas

Summary: This study aims to eliminate the dangerous dye Methylene blue (MB) by adsorption using a low-cost zeolithe in the textile industry. The zeolithe adsorbent exhibited good adsorption capacity and efficiency in removing reactive dyes from aqueous solutions. Kinetic and isotherm modeling showed that the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm provided the best fit to the experimental data. The study also investigated the nature of MB adsorption through the determination of free energy, enthalpy, and entropy.

Moussa Abbas et al.

Summary: The adsorption process of indigo carmine dye onto Activated Pomegranate Peels (APP) was studied, and factors such as initial dye concentration, solution pH, adsorbent dose, agitation speed, and temperature were found to have significant impacts on the adsorption capacity of APP. The best adsorption capacity was achieved at pH 2, with an adsorbent dose of 1 g/L, an agitation speed of 300 rpm, and a contact time of 45 min. The adsorbent elaborated from pomegranate peels material was effective and suitable for the removal of reactive dyes from aqueous solutions.

Photolysis of bromophenol blue in aqueous solution under UV-irradiation: optimization of the parameters influencing the kinetics of degradation

Moussa Abbas

Summary: Despite advancements in water purification technologies, challenges remain in degrading certain stubborn molecules like pesticides, dyes, and industrial or agricultural residues. This study focused on the photolysis degradation of the textile dye BPB under UV irradiation without a catalyst, exploring various factors such as pH, photonic intensity, BPB concentration, and irradiation time. Results showed that COD changes and solution mineralization occurred slowly, with 4 hours of irradiation needed for 20% COD reduction. The study also found that the apparent rate constants for BPB degradation increased linearly with light flux, and the Langmuir-Hinshelwood model provided a better correlation for degradation kinetics.
