Adsorption Efficiency and Photocatalytic Activity of Silver Sulfide Nanoparticles Deposited on Carbon Nanotubes

Gururaj M. Neelgund et al.

Summary: A multimode, dual functional nanomaterial, CNTs-Ag2S, consisting of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and silver sulfide (Ag2S) nanoparticles, was prepared through a facile hydrothermal process. The modified CNTs were used to efficiently immobilize and uniformly distribute the Ag2S nanoparticles, allowing CNTs-Ag2S to adsorb toxic Cd(II) and completely degrade hazardous Alizarin yellow R in water. The adsorption of Cd(II) by CNTs-Ag2S followed pseudo-second-order kinetics, with chemisorption being the rate-determining step. The degradation of Alizarin yellow R by CNTs-Ag2S proceeded with pseudo-first-order kinetics according to the Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) model.

Adsorption of Pb(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), Ni(II), and Co(II) ions by newly synthesized 2-(2′-Hydroxyphenyl)Benzothiazole-functionalized silica

Melek Gucoglu et al.

Summary: This study utilized chemically functionalized silica to remove Pb(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), Ni(II), and Co(II) ions from water samples. The adsorbent was prepared by immobilizing a newly synthesized ligand on the silica surface, and its adsorption performance was investigated. The results showed that the adsorbent had high selectivity for Cu(II) and Pb(II) ions in synthetic wastewater.

Introduction of raw palm fibers in the textile industry by development of nonwoven composite materials based on Washingtonia palm fibers

Laila Sajid et al.

Summary: Three new needle-punched nonwoven composites were developed by mixing palm fiber with cotton, wool, and polyester fibers. Weak adhesion was observed between the fibers, resulting in high porosity for Palm/Wool nonwoven and high tensile strength for Palm/Polyester nonwoven. Thermal resistances varied among the composites.
