Claudins and Gastric Cancer: An Overview

Itaru Hashimoto et al.

Summary: This review highlights the biological and clinical significance of claudin (CLDN) expression in gastric cancer (GC), with a focus on CLDN18.2 and clinical trials centered around it. Abnormal expression of CLDNs, particularly CLDN18, is observed in GC. CLDNs are potential targets for antibody drugs in GC treatment.

Molecular mechanism of therapeutic approaches for human gastric cancer stem cells

Hsi-Lung Hsieh et al.

Summary: Gastric cancer stem cells (GCSCs) play a crucial role in anticancer treatment resistance, tumor progression, and metastasis in gastric cancer. However, the origin of GCSCs is still unclear. This review provides up-to-date information on GCSC surface/intracellular markers and GCSC-mediated pathways, as well as their role in tumor development. Targeting GCSCs with specific agents could enhance the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of gastric cancer.

siRNA-mediated silencing of Nanog reduces stemness properties and increases the sensitivity of HepG2 cells to cisplatin

Hajar Alemohammad et al.

Summary: Combination therapy of Nanog siRNA and cisplatin significantly reduces proliferation, migration, and colony formation ability of liver cancer cells, increases apoptosis rate and cell cycle arrest. Furthermore, the combination therapy down-regulates the expression of stemness-associated genes and up-regulates apoptosis-related genes in HepG2 cells.

Nanog suppression enhanced the chemosensitivity of human non-small-cell lung cancer cells to Cisplatin and inhibited cell migration

Basira Najafzadeh et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Nanog suppression on the chemosensitivity of lung cancer cells to Cisplatin. The results showed that silencing Nanog significantly increased the sensitivity of lung cancer cells to Cisplatin through apoptosis induction. Additionally, Nanog suppression prevented colony formation and migration abilities of the cancer cells. These findings suggest that silencing Nanog combined with Cisplatin could be a promising treatment approach for lung cancer.

The oncogenic potential of NANOG: An important cancer induction mediator

Basira Najafzadeh et al.

Summary: Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are a unique population in tumors, and the transcription factor NANOG plays a pivotal role in conferring CSCs with their characteristics and functions. Understanding and targeting NANOG may be key in diminishing CSCs, sensitizing tumors to chemotherapy, and eradicating cancer cells.

Suppression of Nanog inhibited cell migration and increased the sensitivity of colorectal cancer cells to 5-fluorouracil

Neda Khosravi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that Nanog knockdown in combination with 5-FU treatment effectively suppressed the pathophysiological processes induced by Nanog in CRC cells, including reducing migration and enhancing drug sensitivity.
