Global Distribution of Babesia Species in Questing Ticks: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Based on Published Literature

ThankGod E. Onyiche et al.

Summary: This study conducted a meta-analysis of 104 studies published from 1985 to 2020 to estimate the global prevalence of Babesia spp. in questing ticks, resulting in an estimated prevalence of 2.10%. A total of 19 different Babesia species were detected in 23 tick species, with Babesia microti and Ixodes ricinus being the most commonly reported.

Host association of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato: A review

Katherine A. Wolcott et al.

Summary: Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato (Bbsl) is a bacterial species complex that causes Lyme borreliosis, the most frequently reported vector-borne disease in the Northern hemisphere. Host and vector associations play a crucial role in the geographic distribution and speciation of Bbsl, which are relevant to human health. Current knowledge on host associations in Bbsl is limited and further research, particularly experimental studies using xenodiagnosis and genomics, is needed to fully understand the interactions among hosts, vectors, and bacteria involved in this complex system.
