Success Rate of Obtaining Baseline Somatosensory and Motor Evoked Potentials in 695 Consecutive Cranial and Spine Surgeries

Andres A. Gonzalez et al.

Summary: Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring is important for decreasing the risk of sensory and motor deficits during cranial and spine surgeries. This study evaluates the success rates of obtaining baseline SSEP and MEP data, and finds that preoperative diagnosis can affect the success rates, particularly in cases of spine infection or trauma.

Intraoperative Monitoring for Spinal Surgery

Nitin Agarwal et al.

Summary: Literature opinions on the use of IOMN are divided. MEP monitoring can serve as a diagnostic test, but its sensitivity and specificity vary based on various risk factors. To determine the effectiveness of IONM, it is recommended to implement a standardized neuromonitoring procedure and gather data. Additionally, implementing a standardized IONM plan may increase interdisciplinary cooperation among the surgical team and contribute to further advancements in IONM.

Intraoperative Sensory Signals Predict Prognosis for Patients with Traumatic Cervical Spinal Cord Injury

John R. Renehan et al.

Summary: The potential role of intraoperative neuromonitoring as a prognostic tool in traumatic cervical spinal cord injury (tCSCI) patients has not been sufficiently studied. This study found that the presence of detectable upper extremity somatosensory evoked potential (SSEP) signals in patients with complete tCSCI predicts greater improvement in ASIA motor scores and likelihood of ASIA Impairment Scale grade conversion at final follow-up.

Intra-operative neurophysiological monitoring in patients with dystrophic neurofibromatosis type 1 scoliosis

Junyin Qiu et al.

Summary: The study analyzed intra-operative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) data in NF1-associated scoliosis patients, with a success rate of 87.0% for SEP and 94.6% for MEP. Patients with neurological deficits and more dystrophic features pre-operatively were found to have a higher risk of failed IONM monitoring.
